Genesis News and Notes
May 27, 2021
Friends,

Last week, we mentioned some milestones happening in our home the last few weeks. Many of you may have seen posts on social media about graduation ceremonies, parties, and family visits to celebrate these transitions with our boys. As part of the decor for these celebrations, we've pulled out lots of pictures of our boys over the years - school pictures from different grades; group photos with friends on sports teams and in other activities; family shots from vacations and special occasions. We've been reminded of how much they have grown and matured over the years!

We will continue this week talking about the Holy Spirit and the work of the Spirit in our lives as believers and the church. A very important part of this work is our spiritual growth and maturity. In God's grace, God loves us just as we are and meets us where we are....but God doesn't leave us where we are. The Holy Spirit works in us to transform our character, our desires, our priorities, our vision for life. This is true for both individual believers and the community of believers.

Hopefully, you've been doing your homework this week and praying each day - Come Holy Spirit! Look forward to being with you in worship this Sunday!

Updated COVID Policies and Protocols

This past Sunday, the Church Council discussed and voted on new guidance for gathering in person, masks, etc. Please see this letter from the Co-Pastors for more details click here. You can also contact our Director of Operations, Linda Walker, for a copy of the new policies. Thanks for your continued patience, perseverance, and concern for one another!

Music Moments
This coming Sunday is both Trinity Sunday and the day before Memorial Day. We will be celebrating the faithfulness of God in our lives and specifically how the Holy Spirit helps us to connect to God and to the life He wants for us.
This Sunday we will sing “Holy, Holy, Holy” which was written specifically for Trinity Sunday by a young Anglican preacher named Reginald Heber who died at an early age from sunstroke in 1826 while serving as Bishop of Calcutta to India, the Island of Ceylon and all of Australia. Even with this immense responsibility Heber had been a prolific writer and many of his hymns were published after his death by his widow and friends. Most of them are still sung today.

Here are two meaningful selections for Memorial Day:

Summer Bible Study - "Jesus & Justice"

Pastor Paul will be leading a Bible study this summer on "Jesus & Justice". We will look at words from Jesus, as well as stories and passages from the OT prophets, and how they have inspired and influenced Christians to be concerned about matters of justice. This study meets on Zoom at 1pm on Thursdays, and includes folks from both Genesis UMC and Christ UMC. We will meet every week beginning May 20 through the end of July, knowing that people will be in and out based on summer travel. If you are interested in more info or in joining the study, please contact Pastor Paul at paul@genesisumc.com to make sure he sends you a Zoom invite!

Last Wednesday, our Genesis Weekday Christian Preschool held a graduation ceremony for the Pre-K students who will be moving on to kindergarten. The church presented each graduate with a Beginner's Bible. We hope everyone has a safe and fun summer!
After 25 years of working with the Weekday Christian Preschool, Jamie Maxfield has decided to retire. She will be missed at the preschool, but will remain an active church member at Genesis. Congratulations and thank you for your ministry, Jamie!

Phone Problems

The church office is experiencing technical difficulties with the phone system. If you have tried calling the office after hours you have experienced this issue. Please be patient with us as we work through this problem. If you call the church office during the day, and don't get through, please try again. Currently, the voice mail system isn't working, nor is the rollover feature which allows us to receive more than one phone call at a time. We are working with our phone company and will update you on our progress. In the meantime, we kindly ask for your patience.

Generosity Notes
Memorial Fund

The Memorial Fund allows you to remember or honor a person or event by providing funds for a current ministry of the church. To offer a memorial or honor gift, you may contact the church, mark a gift accordingly or go to our website, www.genesisumc.com
Genesis offers electronic giving, which allows you to make donations on a scheduled, automatic basis. To set up electronic contributions, (checking or savings account or credit or debit card) you can come by the church office and complete an authorization form or go to the church website and give online.

Another great way to give is with a quick text message! Simply send a text to 817-697-2824 with the amount you would like to contribute. Make sure to include the dollar sign before the amount. Within a few minutes, you’ll be sent a text with a link to register. Once your registration is complete you will receive a text verification and a receipt via email.

It is important to know that we can depend on financial support from our congregation members to continue the missions that Genesis provides to so many, as we go through the summer, fall and upcoming holidays.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Troy Chapman at 817-292-4551 or email him at troy@genesisumc.com.

Thank you for supporting Genesis!
Financial Update
Many continue to ask about our financial situation in the wake of staff and pastoral transitions, the COVID pandemic, etc. Here are some 2021 year-to-date (YTD) numbers through April 30:
  • YTD income received - $224,135.90
  • YTD expenses - $183,294.86
  • General Fund balance - $147,917.38
  • Designated Funds balance - $150,614.82
  • YTD Connectional Giving - $0
  • TMF Mortgage debt - $3,932,138.37

Essentially, what these numbers show is that we have a healthy balance in the bank and are managing ongoing budgeted expenses well. However, we continue to have significant mortgage debt and are not currently contributing towards regional and global denominational ministry. Specific questions regarding our finances may be directed to our Interim Finance Administrator Troy Chapman, our Finance Committee Chairperson Chris Youngs, or either Co-Pastor.
