The No. 10 seeded Lions knocked off seventh-seeded Robbinsville 3-2 in the opening round of the sectional tournaments before routing Iselin Kennedy 12-0 in the quarterfinals and downing Somerville 8-4 in the semifinals.

Earlier this week, in the first round of the overall Group III Tournament, High School North cruised past Delsea 6-1 on the back of a complete game effort by Colin Dowlen, who struck out five and scattered seven hits.

The Lions will play for the Group III State Championship on Saturday, June 18 at Veterans Park in Hamilton Township, where Dowlen is expected to get the start in a 10 a.m. meeting with Cranford.

Students Enjoy the Great Outdoors on End of Year Trips
As the spring weather has warmed up toward the end of the academic year, MTPS students have explored the great outdoors by participating in field trips to some of our beautiful local and county parks. Students ventured to Seven Presidents Park in Long Branch to collect and study shells found along the beachfront, while others enjoyed boating, hiking and bald eagles spotting at the Manasquan Reservoir. Others walked the trails at Thompson Park and even constructed a replica Lenni Lenape longhouse at Huber Woods (as seen above).
MTPS Arts Academy Displays Skills at Community Showcase
Earlier this week, the Middletown Township Public Schools Arts Academy invited the community to attend its annual showcase at High School North. The multimedia showcase included a gallery walk featuring installations by students practicing in digital media, fine arts and applied arts disciplines, followed by a series of dramatic, musical and dance performances.

The annual Arts Academy Showcase is the culminating event to celebrate the growth and development of our students' skills, talents and passions that span the artistic spectrum and the academy's six available tracks of study:

  • Fine and Applied Arts
  • Theatre/Drama
  • Instrumental Music
  • Choral/Vocal Music
  • Digital Media Arts and Design
  • Dance

One of the purposes of the MTPS Arts Academy is to help prepare students for continued learning at the college level and to obtain careers related to the arts. To learn more about the academy, or to apply, please visit the MTPS Course Offerings website.
Bayshore Esports Captures State Championship
The Bayshore Dolphins’ Esports team returned to Rider University on June 4, where the group put their undefeated record on the line in the Garden State Esports Super Smash Bros Finals.

Kaiden Leak, David Borbely, Nico Anichino, Austen McKnight, Noah Geurtse, and Austin Murray waited months to compete in the Smash Pit after earning their place in the championship round by defeating the Hoboken Charter Bots in the semifinals.

In the finals, Bayshore took on the Burnett Barbarians of Union City. Burnett won the first round, putting the Dolphins behind for the first time all season. The Dolphins, led by Leak, played a spectacular round two. Anichino started round three, the last round of the match. After delivering some damage to the opposing character, Borbely entered the round and tied the match. Finally, Leak closed out the round and helped deliver the state championship title to Bayshore.

Congratulations to the Bayshore Dolphins on their amazing season!
Harmony Students Join Effort to Address Global Challenges
Earlier this year, fourth grade students at Harmony Elementary School learned about the United Nations' effort to develop Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that were adopted by 193 countries in 2015.

The SDGs provide worldwide guidance to address global challenges, such as a lack of access to clean water, poverty and pathways to a quality education.

To join the global initiative, Harmony fourth graders focused their efforts on the importance of responsible consumption and production by crafting bird feeders, flowers and vases, and other trinkets out of recycled materials.

The items were later sold at a community craft fair and the funds raised were donated to the ASPCA, Brother Wold Animal Rescue, and the Animal Alliance of New Jersey.

Thank you to these students for making such a positive impact on our Middletown and global communities.
