City Operations
No City Council Meetings Week of September 6
In observance of Rosh Hashana, there will be no Council Committee of the Whole nor City Council meetings the week of September 6. They will resume on September 13 at 6:30pm and 7:30pm, respectively. Planning & Development Committee Hosts Cedar-Lee-Meadowbrook Focus Group
The Planning & Development Committee of Council convened a focus group on September 1 in City Council Chambers to discuss the urban design and architecture of the Cedar-Lee-Meadowbrook proposed redevelopment. Members of the public were able to view the livestream of the meeting and interact at an open house in the Atrium. The meeting was the third of many with the community. Materials from the meeting/open house, the video of the meeting, as well as general updates about the project are available on the project webpage.
 
Refuse/Recycling and Bulk Pick-Up Week of September 6
Refuse/ Recycling and bulk items will be picked up one day later than your usual pick-up due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 6. Bulk items are picked up once per month during the first FULL week of each month on your regular trash day; Monday-Friday is defined as a full week. Bulk pick-up is limited to four items per pick-up at no charge. All bulk pick-up items that are fabric must be wrapped in plastic. For additional bulk items, to request collection on any other day, or to request a special collection of loose brush, please use the form online. Cost is $10 per bulk item for a special pick-up.
 
Community Center Update
The Community Center will be closed Labor Day weekend (September 3-September 6) for facility maintenance. The building will reopen on September 7.
 
Swimming Update
Cumberland Pool will close for the season on September 6. Due to the recent rise in COVID-19 infections caused by the Delta variant, there will be no indoor pool program at Heights High School this fall. A decision about the winter and spring indoor pool season will be made at a later date based on pandemic conditions at that time. As always, the safety of students and residents is of utmost concern.
 
Senior Activity Center Update
After 20 years of wonderful service to Cleveland Heights seniors as Office on Aging Supervisor, Amy Jenkins is retiring on September 3. We welcome Dynesha Stover-McDonald as the new supervisor. Dynesha has worked in the department for over 12 years and started the position on August 16. We wish a happy retirement to Amy for a job well done!
 
Following the Labor Day holiday, the Senior Activity Center returns to normal hours of operation: Monday-Friday, 9am to 4pm. A new class, Intro to Qi Gong, begins September 9 that focuses on the practice of wholistic health maintenance. Advance registration is required.
 
Drive-Through Food Distribution at Community Center
The Cleveland Heights Community Center is partnering with the Cleveland Food Bank to be a distribution point for The Farmers to Families food box program providing farm fresh food to Cleveland Heights residents in need. The next distribution date is September 9 at the Community Center, 1 Monticello Blvd. Those interested must call 216-691-7377 in advance to reserve your box since supplies are limited.
 
This Week at Cain Park
Free concerts bookend the Labor Day Weekend: Verb Ballets performs a free concert on September 3 at 8pm and The AirChiefs take the stage on September 5 (1-4pm). MultiMusic Fest featuring Stokley, SWV and Cleveland’s own, Smooth Approach, takes place on September 4 beginning at 6pm. Tickets can be purchased through the Cain Park Ticket Office, 216-371-3000. And Indigo Girls make their Cain Park debut at a sold-out concert on September 9. Please familiarize yourself with Cain Park’s COVID policies. 2021 Cleveland National Air Show September 4-6
As a reminder, this weekend you’ll be hearing the Air Show, which is Cleveland’s Labor Day Weekend tradition. It will take place 9am to 4pm this Saturday through Monday.

Blood Drives Save Lives
The American Red Cross reports that although our community has helped collect 294 pints of blood over the summer that have helped save up to 882 lives, there is still a critical shortage. The next Blood Drive is September 7 from 10am to 4pm at Church of The Saviour (2537 Lee Road). Visit their website to register or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
