With record-breaking temperatures already in Texas, summer is most definitely here! Disability Rights Texas (DRTx) is hosting some great learning opportunities to help you beat the heat in the next few months. And we also wanted to let you know about some other upcoming community events.

DRTx Free Online Supported Decision Making Legal Clinic: June 29, 2022
DRTx and Vinson & Elkins LLP are hosting a free supported decision making virtual legal clinic on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, for people with disabilities and their families.
 
During the online event, participants will have an opportunity to meet 1-on-1 with an attorney, free of charge. Attorneys will discuss alternatives to guardianship, supported decision making, and powers of attorney. Appointment times for the virtual clinic are extremely limited, so register today! Appointments will be scheduled for one-hour time frames.

DRTx Free Online Transition to College
Legal Clinic: August 4 at 9:30 am
Are you a college student (or soon to be college student) with a disability or their supporter? This DRTx virtual legal clinic will help you with things like knowing your rights at college, requesting classroom accommodations, getting help with expenses, learning about Social Security benefits, and exploring alternatives to guardianship.
 
This is your chance to speak with a disability rights attorney in a private session for free. Space is limited so call 1-800-252-9108 soon to reserve your time with an attorney. Autism-Friendly COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
This summer, the Autism Society of Texas is hosting sensory-friendly COVID-19 vaccine clinics. During the clinics, any person with a disability, as well as their parents or caregivers, can receive a vaccine. Clinics are scheduled for San Antonio (June 11), Houston (July 9), Austin (July 23), and Dallas (August 13).
 
Aging and IDD: Family Future Planning Webinar Series
Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are living longer and family future planning is as important as ever. In July, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities will co-host the Aging and IDD: Family Future Planning Webinar Series. The three-part series will cover family future planning barriers, planning strategies and processes, and future planning for aging adults with IDD.
