2022 Champion

Australian International Meat Judging Team!

In early July, WT Meat Judging brought home the championship trophy from the Australian International Meat Judging competition. The team dominated the competition and brought home many individual trophies as well!

"Being given a chance to compete in another country was a lifetime opportunity. The contest rolled around, and the team was the strongest that we have been, which led to a great outcome. The 2022 Meat Judging Team would not have been able to be Australian Intercollegiate Meat Judging Team Champions without the support of our coaches, family, and sponsors that helped us get to Australia and the sponsors who hosted the conference. Everyone is very grateful for this experience, and we cannot wait to start in the fall," Ambri Harrigal said.

Well done, Buffs!

Agriculture Study Abroad in Australia

Eight students and four faculty members represented Paul Engler’s College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences in Australia while on a 14-day Study Abroad trip.

Dr. Bridget Guerrero, Associate Professor of Agricultural Business and Economics, shared highlights from the trip. These highlights included attending a Merino Stud farm, getting to shear sheep, seeing the wool process from start to finish, and gaining knowledge of the family business atmosphere. In addition, the group learned about regenerative agriculture, feedyards, and even the history of sheep farming.

“If I had to describe the trip in one word it would be ‘awesome.’ Study abroad trips like this aren’t just about what you learn, but also about the connections and people you get to meet along the way” Guerrero said.

Lauren Otterness, B.S. Wildlife Biology

Lauren Otterness, B.S. Wildlife Biology '21, is now a Field Technician with Michigan State University assisting a graduate student researching the effects of private forest management on Wood Turtles. Using radio telemetry and vegetation surveys, they gather data to help guide management recommendations for the species of particular concern.

Her best advice to incoming students: "Wildlife Biology is a competitive field that doesn't necessarily pay well. But if it is something you are passionate about, it can be a very fulfilling career path. The most important thing you can do as an undergraduate is to get out there and volunteer or get an internship to get field experience. This will make you a competitive candidate when it comes to finding jobs."

Congratulations on all of your hard work, Lauren!
