Anne Magratten: Engaging with students’ inner worlds through the creative process
Anne Magratten, a faculty member in the Visual Arts Program at Linn-Benton Community College, has taught art in colleges and universities, and minimum to maximum security prisons. She has seen its benefits for students from all walks of life. “Art is something that can really enrich a person’s life - from those professionally using and selling art to the majority of the students I work with, who are there because it is personally enriching.”
Mark Majeski: Athletics “great stuff” for student development
“There is a lot of opportunity in this window to do good things. There is a real impact that you see in the development of students - emotionally, physically, and mentally,” said Mark Majeski, athletic director for Linn-Benton Community College. “If we do our best work they are growing in all three of these areas.”
Yannie Alvarez: 'I think people should just try'
Some people like to read. Others are into movies. But for Yannie Alvarez, relaxing is all about creating art. The Corvallis resident took a few art classes in high school and also dabbled on her own, drawing with phone apps and exploring painting with acrylics. The daughter of a Linn-Benton Community College graduate whose sister also attended LBCC, she also decided to enroll at the community college and to check out the art classes while she was there.
Non-Destructive Testing Saves Lives
There is no doubt that your life has been saved not once, not twice, but hundreds of times because of non-destructive testing. When you get on a plane, the engines that propel it are tested using NDT methods. The parts that make up your car’s brake system, the welds on the bridges you drive over, and even the parts in your cell phone, were tested using NDT.
