Akaflieg - SLO

Wednesday, March 2, 2016 -  No Host Bar starts at 6:00 p.m.
Dinner starts at 7.p.m.

Troy Wollman is a fourth-year aerospace engineering student at Cal Poly SLO. He transferred to Cal Poly after two years at Antelope Valley Community College. After discontinuing powered flight training for financial reasons, he is now flying gliders with CCSC (Central California Soaring Club).

Jennifer Bauman is a third-year aerospace engineering student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Jenn has devoted countless hours over the last seven years to the warbird restoration and education projects at the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) in Camarillo, California.

The Akafliegs (Academic Flying Clubs) are a collection of ten engineering student-operated glider clubs based in Germany. The clubs provide opportunities for flight training and engineering projects to students of their partner universities. Akaflieg students design, build, and fly experimental gliders. A group of Cal Poly Aerospace Engineering students have organized to implement the first U.S Akaflieg, in partnership with Akaflieg München. This is an awesome opportunity to get students involved in design projects, and low cost flight training in San Luis Obispo County.

Make sure you have signed up on line or have a current reservation. Hope to see you there!  More information about Troy Wollman, Jennifer Bauman and the event
can be found at this link.   Dinner is catered and open to the public ($17/person), reservations are required prior to 6 p.m., Monday prior to dinner, either on-line or call 805 296-1935

Dennis Gage_ My Classic Car

You are getting an early warning with this notice if you haven't registered your car for WWW8, or have not made plans yet for May 7th.  Who knows?  You or your car could become a national celebrity!  For more information about My Classic Car & Dennis Gage, click on his picture to the left.

Everyone is also invited on Friday evening prior to WWW8 for a catered Dinner & Barn Dance with music by Monte Mills & The Lucky Horseshoe Band. Advance tickets of $30 are (required) and available by registering online.

It took several years of persistence by Toni Moore, Howard Love and Carol Verstuyft to help bring Dennis Gage to  Warbirds Wings & Wheels. Kudos to you wonderful volunteers from EWM!  You can find more information, vehicle & vendor registration, volunteer and sponsor opportunities for this upcoming event.  Click here for more information!

General Atomic Gnat 750 Mounted in Hangar One

The EWM Restoration Crew signed off on yet another completed project, the General Atomic GNAT 750 Drone.  It is with great pride that volunteer members of the restoration crew mounted the finished drone at the top of Hangar One for all to see.  The Gnat is on loan from the US Navy.  You can find a considerable amount of information on the drone and how it has been used by clicking on the picture below.  Alas, one thing missing is most of this particular drone's history. That is just a bit classified. Estrella Warbird Museum is very fortunate, and honored, to be able to preserve this portion of military aviation history for generations to come.
