Hunter's Creek Middle School Community Brief
Monday, January 10, 2022
HCMS Community Member,
I hope the new year brings you and your family health, happiness, peace, joy and prosperity. We are all ready for 2022!
The third quarter of the academic year started on Tuesday, January 4th. The second quarter report cards will go home with students on Wednesday, January 12. They will also be available on Skyward. I urge you to review with your student their grades, study habits and goals for the second semester of the 2021-2022 school year. ( 2-min. Skyward How To YouTube video)
Parents! We will continue to strictly adhere to the OCPS COVID-19 Health and Safety Procedures at all times. If your child is not feeling well, they should remain at home. Parents would be responsible for reaching out to the school and to the teachers for missed work, just as they would for any extended absence.

This issue is actually running on Sunday afternoon which happens to be National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day across the USA. If you should see a member of law enforcement in the coming days, especially our School Resource Officer Deputy Martin of the Orange County Sheriff's Office, kindly take a moment to thank them for their efforts. They are there for all of us and when danger surfaces, they run towards it - not the other direction. We are extremely grateful for Deputy Martin's service as well as all members of any law enforcement agency.
Deputy Martin being recognized in the past for his tremendous efforts on behalf of Hunter's Creek Middle School. He is well liked by the students and does his very best each school day to make sure that they and all of us are within a safe school environment.
We appreciate all of the Eagles’ families for your partnership and support to take care of our Eagles to ensure their well-being and provide them with the best education.

Beanstack Winter Reading Challenge
From January 1 to January 31, HCMS will participate in Beanstack’s Fifth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, “Read for a Better World,” sponsored by Lerner Publishing Group. We challenge our students to read at least 200 minutes each during the month and keep track of their reading on our Beanstack site. Students can access Beanstack through Launchpad.
Thousands of other libraries and schools across the nation are joining in too, for a chance at winning prizes including book collections, signed books, and virtual author visits. Happy reading, Eagles! #WinterRead2022 #ReadforaBetterWorld

Happier January
How can we start this new year happier? Things have certainly not been easy over the last year, and we are still in difficult and uncertain times. The best way to try to handle our difficult emotions and experiences is by focusing on what we can control. This month, we're encouraging everyone to focus on small steps to try to boost happiness - for ourselves and others around us - to spread kindness and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
