RABBI KENTER'S DVAR
In this week’s Torah portion, we encounter the final three plagues. As these terrible events continue to plague the Egyptians, the language used in relation to Pharaoh’s response is that his heart was hardened. Rather than looking outward at the suffering of others, he looks inward at what letting the slaves go will mean for him. As Pharaoh’s heart hardens, the people of Israel navigate a whirlwind of emotions. At first, they think they’ll never be able to leave and as every plague goes by, they wonder whether this will finally be the time when they are free of their bondage. Continue reading...
CONGREGATIONAL INFORMATION
A very special thank you to the Congregation Beth Shalom of Ottawa Legacy Fund for it's recent support and purchase of tech upgrades for our staff, including brand new screens and laptops, allowing them to seamlessly work from home and office, as well as helping to fund this past year’s High Holy Day outdoor tent. Todah Rabah!
Thanks to the generosity of our friend and congregant Brent Taylor, our sanctuary page-turner has been refurbished to its former glory. The page-turner, originally dedicated by Brent’s parents Ethel and Irving Taylor, was in deep need of repair, and now once again stands proudly on our bima.

Pictured here is Norm Ferkin, our Head Gabbai, who spearheaded this project, Brent Taylor, who generously enabled the refurbishment, and our Rosh Paginator Stephen Bindman.

There are many blessings that happen in all of our lives such as the birth of a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild; the engagement or marriage of a loved one; or a promotion at work or a volunteer award.  These events lend balance to times of sadness, such as the death or illness of a loved one. We at Kehillat Beth Israel are grateful for the opportunity to share these moments with you - to be a source of community in both times of celebration and times of sorrow.

And in the spirit of gratitude, we also take this opportunity to thank the members of our community for their charitable gifts to the synagogue. We could not do the important work that we do at Kehillat Beth Israel without your generous support. We are so thankful for your continued contributions that allow us to grow and thrive. Todah Rabbah!
