CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY September 24, 2021

Temporary daytime road closure Space Center Drive at Platte Avenue October 5 - 8 Construction is in progress to replace the eastbound and westbound bridges on Platte Avenue over Sand Creek between Wooten Road and the Powers Boulevard Interchange to improve safety. Median removal and paving The Platte Avenue over Sand Creek project will utilize a temporary road closure October 5 - 8 at Space Center Drive, weather and resource dependent. Traffic will be detoured at the south end of Space Center Drive each day from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Access to Space Center Drive at the north end (Galley Road) will remain open. Traffic Impacts October 5 - 8 Space Center Drive at Platte Avenue, will implement a full road closure at the south end of Space Center Drive Tuesday through Friday, October 5 - 8, each day from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., for the removal of median and paving. Access to the north end of Space Center Drive (Galley Road) will remain open. Detour - Traffic (including bicyclists and pedestrians) on Platte Avenue will be detoured at Wooten Road north to Galley Road and east to the Powers Interchange, Tuesday through Friday, October 5 - 8, each day from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Alternate access to the area also will be available at Babcock Road.

All business access will remain open throughout construction. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes when possible.

Ongoing Traffic Impacts Traffic control measures are in place. Please use caution Construction activity is behind barrier along the median area of bridges Speeds reduced to 35 mph in the work zone Bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to seek alternate routes during construction

Background The bridges are approaching the end of their service life (built in 1956), suffering from prior flood damage (2008) and overall degradation of the structures. The project will replace the two separate bridges with one bridge structure. The project will also add sidewalks along the north and south sides of Platte Avenue over the creek to accommodate the future Sand Creek Regional Trail under the Platte Avenue bridge.
