Hello Sue,

Summers in Vermont bring creemees, campers, bicyclists, and fairs (more on that below). While you're sipping your favorite summer beverage, consider who might be worthy of recognition at this year's annual highway safety awards to be presented in October. There are nine categories and nominations are due September 2nd.

You can find the call for nominations and submission form here

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

The New State Highway Safety Plan is Here!

Vermont's State Highway Safety Office is pleased to announce that the Federal Highway Administration received and approved the process used to update Vermont's Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) 2022-2026.  The SHSP identifies Vermont's key safety needs and guides investment decisions towards strategies and countermeasures with the most potential to save lives and prevent injuries.

Champlain Valley Fair

We're still seeking volunteers to staff the booth at this year's fair. The shifts are four hours each and the fair runs from August 26 - September 4. The bandstand is back in full swing this year with some great acts.

See the fair concert & grandstand acts schedule here.

And here's a link to the volunteer sign-up sheet.

Lastly, participation is voluntary. The VHSA does not have an EA to bill time for this activity.

This Year's Click It or Ticket Stats

Thanks to Paul White, one of the state's law enforcement liaisons, we're sharing some stats from this year's Click It or Ticket national law enforcement mobilization. There continues to be room for improvement to get back to pre-COVID participation, so this year's results were somewhat mixed.

Compared to 2021 there was an increase in the number of departments participating (towns, sheriffs, VSP), total hours worked, motorists contacted, and criminal arrests for serious motor vehicle offenses (DLS, DUI, Neg Op, etc.). However, there was a decrease in patrol events (task force details) and tickets issued. Here's the numeric breakdown:

  • Total number of saturation patrols and checkpoints: 242
  • Total number of vehicles contacted: 5,033
  • Total number of seatbelt tickets: 92
  • Total number of CPS tickets: 11
  • Total number of speeding tickets: 771
  • Total number of texting or H/H device tickets: 64
  • Total number of other tickets: 506
  • Total number of arrests: 113
  • Total number of hours worked: 2,707
