West Park Historical Society invites the community for a dedication ceremony of a newly created grave marker for Mr. Henry Wright.
Mr. Wright, born in 1791, had escaped slavery and fled to Ohio on the underground railroad to Lakewood in the mid-1800s. West Park settler, John West, hired Mr. Wright as a farmhand on West 138 Street. Mr. Wright’s great strength is legendary in tales told. He was said to be the oldest person in Cleveland when he passed in 1905. The West Park Historial Society is very proud to have uncovered the long-lost story of this incredible man and to ensure that he is never again forgotten!
