Downing a jolt of java before shopping could prove costly to buyers on a budget. A new study led by marketing professor Dipayan Biswas found that consuming caffeinated beverages prior to shopping led to higher spending. The study was recently accepted in the Journal of Marketing.

Gary Patterson was appointed dean of the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance and starts his new role on July 1. He will also serve as the college's dean on USF's St. Petersburg campus. He is a longtime associate dean and finance professor who started at USF in 2000.

USF will have a new, revamped Master of Accountancy degree program coming this fall. The program redesign will infuse the 30-credit-hour coursework with technology-driven skills in information technology, data mining, and predictive analytics of financial data.

Carl Hadden was appointed the new regional director of the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, which is part of the Muma College of Business. Hadden served in the interim role since August 2021. He will lead the SBDC in the 10-county region that spans most of west central Florida.

USF announced a $25,000 donation from the Gail Baird Foundation to help women enrolled in the entrepreneurship program in the Muma College of Business for the 2022-2023 academic year. The scholarship will support five $3,000 scholarships and one $10,000 scholarship.

Chris Fils was recently named among the 2022 InvestmentNews class of 40 Under 40. The annual selection includes an impressive list of 40 young professionals from the asset management and academic worlds. Students in the USF Muma College of Business Executive MBA program visited Cape Town, South Africa as part of the cohort's overseas experience. The group of executives visit different companies to learn about conducting international business.

Delroy Hunter, the Serge Bonanni Professor of International Finance in the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, wrote an op-ed titled "The cost of using fiscal councils to achieve discipline," in the Jamaican newspaper, The Gleaner. He recently concluded a Fulbright scholarship at the University of the West Indies' Mona School of Business and Management.
Pinshuo Wang, assistant professor in the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, won the 2021 Best Paper award from the International Journal of the Economics of Business for her co-authored article titled “Raising Rivals Costs by Customer Diversion: Evidence from Airline Baggage Fees.”
Shivendu Shivendu, an associate professor of information systems, and Kiran Garimella, an assistant professor of instruction in the information systems and decision sciences department, co-wrote an op-ed guest column about the crypto crash in the Tampa Bay Times.
Dipayan Biswas, the Frank Harvey Endowed Professor of Marketing, was invited to be an associate editor at the Journal of Marketing Research, one of the highest ranked journals in the field of marketing research. The publication is on the UTD and FT-50 lists.

Misty Stoller (‘92, BS, Business Administration) was appointed director of communications and marketing at Tykes and Teens, an agency that provides mental health services and programs for children and adolescents.
Jadian Warren (‘18, MBA, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship) landed a new job at Publix Super Markets as a lead senior financial reporting accountant. She is a former USF Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 honoree.
Evan Burroughs (‘13, BS, Finance) recently graduated from Georgetown University Law Center and will return to the Washington, D.C. office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati law firm. Burroughs is a former USF Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 honoree.
Rafikiel Seyvunde (‘17, BA, Communications) joined Adidas as an assistant manager in the digital analytics team. She also graduated from Questrom School of Business at Boston University.
Juliana Almeida (‘06, BA, Dean’s Office) has a new role as director of branding and social media at SHARE.
Jean Presendieu (15, BS, Accounting) was promoted to audit senior at Deloitte.

The 2022 Atlantic hurricane season began June 1 and the Florida Small Business Development Center Network is urging small business owners to get prepared by developing a disaster preparedness plan. That means businesses should back up data and ensure they have access to important files, such as tax records, legal, and financial documents.
