This Weekend in Worship
Parts of the liturgy this weekend will invite us to call to mind all who died or suffered in the wake of events since October 7, 2023 in Israel and Palestine. This date was a painful turning point in the long struggle between the State of Israel and the Palestinian people. In response to a resolution passed at the 2024 Synod Assembly of the Southeastern Iowa Synod this past May, congregations are invited to share in a service of lamentation and remembrance. A sermon by Bishop Amy Current of the Southeastern Iowa Synod will be shared via video. Click here for more information on the ongoing conflict, it’s origins and the work of the Southeastern Iowa Synod Sumud Network.

Cheryl Hamilton Resigns as Altar Guild Chair
Cheryl Hamilton began her service on the Altar Guild of Faith Lutheran Church in the late 1990s and became the chairperson shortly after. Celebrating approximately 25 years of service, mostly as the Altar Guild Chairperson, Cheryl has resigned from this role. She will remain an Altar Guild member. Cheryl served alongside seven different pastors and numerous wonderful and dedicated Altar Guild members during her tenure as chairperson.
The altar guild is responsible for preparing the worship space, including Holy Communion and paraments. Cheryl states, “As chair, I tried to ensure that these needs were met on a weekly basis. My goal was to alleviate any concern by the pastors regarding this area of worship. It was a privilege to serve our Lord, Jesus Christ, and our Faith congregation in this capacity and now I will turn over the chairmanship but will continue on the guild.” Jane Turner now serves as the Altar Guild Chairperson.
Pastor Eric Carlson states, “I have served with many Altar Guild Chairpersons in my 31 years of ordained ministry, and Cheryl is one of the best. Cheryl’s attention to detail, patience, and respect for the worship space is impeccable. On behalf of our predecessor pastors, Pastor Megan and I are incredibly grateful for Cheryl and give thanks to God for her dedication.”

Faithful Connections
Sundays
Faithful Connections is a time for caregivers--parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents, etc.--to come together for intentional conversation about forming the faith of young ones today. Please join us Sunday mornings at 9:30 in the Luther Room for discussion questions, guest speakers, prayer, resource sharing, and general support. It has been said that there are no such thing as "other people's children" and as followers of Jesus we are not meant to do life alone. This is an opportunity to take 45 minutes a week and connect with other adults.

How to Have Crucial Conversations
Sundays
Adult Faith Formation on Sunday mornings kicks off a series of sessions regarding crucial conversations around tough topics. As a church we confess that God is deeply involved in our lives and world, but figuring out how and what that means in relation to the specific issues and questions we face is often difficult. People in a faith community seem reluctant to talk together about such questions, especially if this will open up real differences among them. These sessions will serve as a guide that points out some important things to remember in leading faith-based conversations about social issues.

The Freedom of a Christian

This is an invitation to hear, share, and experience the Lutheran witness of the Christian faith as it relates to God’s narrative of freedom in Christ.
