Dear WCA Families,
What a blessing you have been to WCA this last week. The smiling faces entering school each day, along with the willing hearts to welcome new friends to WCA have delighted those of us who are privileged to serve you and your child(ren).
The news gets increasingly disturbing on many fronts. What can we, as the Body of Christ at Weddington Christian Academy, do?
- Support and encourage one another in small and big ways: reach out to new families, tell teachers and staff how much you appreciate them, give grace in situations like carpool and with others whose opinions are different, realize that everyone is doing the best that they can.
- Make decisions for your family and children that will provide the best chance of safety for you and others. Avoid events, activities, and places of large crowds of people. Choose to do things within your family unit and get outside in fresh air.
- Pray as a family (your children can lead) for our WCA Family, our community, nation, and world as well as specifically for healthcare workers, first responders, military, and those who are sick.
Thank you for being a part of the WCA Family and supporting each other.

JK & Kindergarten | Pick-up at 2:30 pm
EC, 1 - 8 | Pick-up at 2:45 pm.
After School Care: 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm. Students must register in the
office for after care.
Tuesday, August 24: Regular School Day:
Wednesday, August 25: Regular School Day
Thursday, August 26: Regular School Day
Friday, August 27: Regular School Day

Dear WCA Families,
Thank you for your grace and patience as we have consolidated information to develop our WCA Protocol Plan to meet recent and ongoing changes.
Care for Others and Christian Community
- Our school community includes students and employees who may need to mask due to illnesses and immunosuppression within their immediate families. We ask that your family graciously support these individuals and families

We also recognize that families have differing views on the merits of masking and other protocols. Our employees will not allow this to become a divisive issue in our classrooms, and we request that families speak with their children about regarding others’ views with Christian charity
- Please make decisions that will limit your family’s exposure such as avoiding activities, events, and places with large crowds.
- Keep your child home if they are sick
- A day porter will provide services during school hours (e.g. cleaning of high touch surfaces)
- PTF has provided teachers with cleaning caddies that include Lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, disinfectant surface spray etc. Teachers will clean high touch surfaces in the classroom daily.
- Hand sanitizer stations are placed throughout the school and regular hand washing is required throughout the day.
Classrooms
- Each classroom will remain in their ‘class family’ for academic and social activities.
Lunch
- Students will be seated 4 at a table within their class family and served lunch.
- The day porter will clean and disinfect tables after each class.
Guests on Campus
- We will limit visitors inside the school.
Athletics, Social Events
- We expect our fall athletic season to resume on time with traditional offerings. We await guidance from our athletic league for determining specific policies.
- We expect PTF social events will resume.
Our current plans include:
- Per CDC guidance, indoor masking is recommended, but the school will place the choice to either mask or not mask on individual families to make for their children and will fully support families’ decisions. Our teachers and staff will also be permitted to make individual decisions about masking.
- COVID positive individuals will be required to quarantine based on local guidelines at that time (currently 10 days for mild to moderate illness with symptom improvement over that time).
- Individuals exposed to COVID-19 may be required to quarantine. Decisions about whether to require quarantine of an exposed individual will be based on the latest expert guidance and will take into consideration all relevant factors (e.g. vaccination status, recent recovery from COVID-19 etc.)
- Shorter quarantine options will be used (i.e., ten days/seven days with negative PCR test at day five).

Uniform Policy
Mondays: Spirit Days - WCA t-shirts and hoodies with khakis or jeans.
Tuesdays: Regulation school uniforms.
Wednesdays: Chapel attire
Thursdays: Regulation school uniforms or PE uniforms if your child has PE.
Fridays: Regulation school uniforms or PE uniforms if your child has PE.

Building Better Moms (BBM) Group
at Weddington UMC
Are you a working mom looking for a place to meet other moms? Are you searching for friendships within the church with other women and don’t know where to start? Join Building Better Moms! The Ark Children’s Ministry at Weddington UMC is excited to share this new opportunity for moms in the Weddington area with children ages birth through teenagers.
The mission of BBM is to be a place that meets you right where you are as a mom, a woman, and a friend.
Mothers Throughout the Community are Welcomed You do not have to be a member of Weddington UMC to be a part of this group. Your age and the age of your children (early childhood through high school) does not matter. Whatever you are going through in life, whatever stage you are at in your faith journey, this is a place for you because we all have ONE thing in common – we are moms!
Meeting Dates: The group will meet twice a month on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on 9/14, 9/28, 10/12, 10/26, 11/9, 11/30, 1/11, 1/25, 2/8, 2/22, 3/8, 3/22, 4/12, 4/26, 5/10.

Hawk Annual Fund
In conjunction with our 20th anniversary celebration, we are introducing The Hawk Fund: Our Annual Fund Campaign for a Strong School Year. The Hawk Fund will replace The Invest in a Child campaign, which has helped support the school’s operating expenses each year, and has always played a vital role in ensuring the school’s stability and sustainability. We need your help to continue meeting any challenges that come our way, while providing our students with the best learning environment possible. Every student benefits from the Annual Fund. This year, we are asking each family to support the The Hawk Fund with a goal of 100% participation in order to ensure our vibrant community will continue STRONGER than ever.’

Parking Lot Prayer Ministry
Weddington Christian Academy’s success over the last twenty years is largely due to an ongoing commitment to prayer. Teachers and staff pray with and for each other. Each class prays together daily. All parent-teacher conferences and school events begin with prayer. And for many years, a group of parents have met weekly in the multi-purpose room to pray for the school. Last year, COVID protocols moved that parent gathering outside to the WCA parking lot. Much to everyone’s surprise, the new location brought a fresh focus, and “Parking Lot Prayer” was born.
