Hunterdon To Receive $1 Million Budget Grant For
County 9-1-1 Operations

Lanza: Successful Lobbying Effort By County and NJAC
A $1 million grant in the recently enacted state budget for Hunterdon County’s 9-1-1 operations is the result of the many years long lobbying effort by the County and the New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC) to gain funding from the telephone surcharge the state has been diverting away from its dedicated use, Hunterdon Commissioners Director John E. Lanza reported at the Board’s July 5th meeting.

Lanza announced, “The state’s FY 23 budget, signed into law last week, allocated $1 million towards 9-1-1 infrastructure improvements and upgrades for Hunterdon and Somerset Counties, which is the appropriate use of telephone surcharge revenues.”

Hunterdon Awarded
$1.8 million
In State Bridge Grants
Hunterdon County received notification that over $1.8 million in bridge infrastructure grant funds have been approved for three county projects, through the State’s Local Bridges Fund Program, Hunterdon County Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren announced.

Van Doren, the Board’s liaison for the Department of Engineering and Public Works, said, “There have been many conversations in recent months about the infrastructure of our nation’s bridges, much of it negative, but today we have the good news that the County’s Engineering team has secured state grants for future bridge construction projects in the county.

Grant funding helps to reduce the overall County capital improvement costs for these projects which benefits county taxpayers.”

Soloway reported at the July 5th Board meeting.

Soloway, the Board’s Veterans co-liaison, said, “Last year Hunterdon County introduced the Veteran Headstone Cleaning program to residents, inviting non-profit founder Trae Zipperer, whose organization ‘By Memorial Day’ inspires communities to honor Veterans in their final resting places by caring for their headstones.

Mr. Zipperer explained that cleaning the veteran headstones demonstrates respect and honor for those who have served the nation who are now in their final resting place.”
