The Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe

Letter from...Europe?

You'll note the question mark in the title of this missive. The idea of Europe—just what it is, and what it is not—is one of history’s great debates. You would think, as the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe, we would have a crisp, clean idea of just what that means; but like so many other things in our church, when it comes down to cases, the answer sometimes is—it depends. La Iglesia Episcopal en Cuba

En imágenes, nuestra obispa diocesana y el obispo diocesano de Puerto Rico luego de la celebración conjunta donde reconocieron la labor ministerial de las mujeres.

During the morning of Wednesday June 15, the Holy Eucharist was celebrated from the Episcopal Cathedral San Juan the Baptist in Santurce. This mass featured the company of the Rvdma. Griselda Delgado, Bishop of La Iglesia Episcopal en Cuba and together with the female clergy of our diocese. Our Obispo Rafael Morales Maldonado, held this celebration to thank and recognize the work and dedication done by this ministry and highlight the work of the Rvda. Presb. Emilia Morales Vega, who was named Honorary Canonical of the Cathedral San Juan Butista in Santurce. The installation will be held on July 17, 2022.

Trinity St. John’s Episcopal Church, in Hewlett, has a take-one-leave-one food pantry — named the Little Pantry — designed for quick and low-key pickup for those in need.

The Little Pantry was started at the first peak of the pandemic in March 2020 as a reaction to widespread reporting about hunger, food deserts, and poverty, the church’s Rev. Chris Ballard said. Read the whole article >

Some day too soon, a mother and child who lost their home to economic hardship, domestic violence, a fire, or some other cruel and sudden reality will find refuge in Room 4 of a century-old townhouse on Grant Street in Newark.

The second-floor room is one of nine in a new emergency shelter for women with children that the Apostles’ House, a Newark-based non-profit, is scheduled to open this fall. The group plans to hold an open house at the new shelter. Read the whole article >

Important child nutrition legislation was passed recently, and, as a result, you can make sure no child in your area goes hungry while school is out. The New Jersey Legislature’s authorization of the Summer Meals Program for children permits grab and go meals. This means a site such as a church can provide meals to children even if they are not running a Vacation Bible School or other organized summer programs for children. The deadline to apply to host a Summer Meals Program site is extended to July 31, so you still have time to apply. Find out more >

Hydroponic farming with greens on top and tilapia below in the water. This is a ministry co-sponsored by the Episcopal churches on St Croix. Scott Anson Benhase said on the Facebook page of Nazareth By The Sea Episcopal Church that he had a wonderful tour over the weekend. He was given a fresh cucumber as a parting gift. Sweet! We need to be doing more of these kind of partnerships.

More than 200 people attended Niagara Pride Family Fun Day at St. Peter's, Niagara Falls , in what the congregation hopes will become an annual event. An interfaith service was held in the church from 11 am to noon, with six ministers from the area offering prayers, poems, and reflections. Peter Smith provided the music.
