Summer Emergency Preparedness

Greetings from your PTA Emergency Preparedness Chair 🙂

Looking for ways to be prepared for emergencies this summer? Here are a couple of great local resources for CPR training, First Aid and water safety.

  • The Medic One Foundation is a local non-profit organization that is dedicated to saving lives by improving pre-hospital emergency care. They offer numerous CPR/AED/1st Aid classes for the community in a variety of locations and dates. Classes are free if taken as "non-certified" and have a fee for taking for "certification". Parents, caregivers, babysitters and any other interested community members can gain valuable life skills that empower them in case of an emergency this summer and beyond. If you've always wanted to be knowledgeable in this skill, now is a great time to take advantage!

  • As we head into the busy summer vacation months, this is also a perfect time to refresh your knowledge on water safety as many of us will be out enjoying the summer rays near or in water. Did you know that drowning is silent and only takes seconds? Parents and caregivers are encouraged to be "Water Watchers" to commit to fully supervising the pool or open water areas at all times. Please visit No More Under for more information on simple things you can do to be more prepared. Their mission also includes reducing barriers, cultural and financial among others, to make access to swimming lessons more equitable.
