Labor Shortage Impacting Vermont

Nationwide, job openings increased to 11 million in October, and in Vermont, there were 25,000 jobs open in September. Vermont Chamber President Betsy Bishop spoke with VTDigger for their report on staffing issues, and our member Darn Tough shared what their company is doing to successfully attract and hire new workers.

Cabot Wins 15 Awards at National Cheese Competition

Our member Cabot's Extra Sharp Vermont Cheddar earned the Chairman’s Award and the title of Best Cheddar at the National Milk Producers Federation's Annual Cheese Contest. Cabot earned 13 additional awards, sweeping the Extra Sharp Cheddar, Sharp Cheddar, and Natural Cheese Snack categories.

Lake Champlain Chocolates 'Borrows' Employees in Innovative Program

Our member Lake Champlain Chocolates formed a new partnership with a local manufacturer Rhino Foods to share staff to help with its busy Christmas period.

COVID-19 Business Guidance & Webinar

The Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD) released additional business guidance to implement through the holiday season and into the months to come. Additionally, the ACCD hosted a webinar, recorded here, where business leaders asked questions about when to send employees home, when not to, and what is expected.

Update to the Federal Vaccination and Testing ETS 

The US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit dissolved the Fifth Circuit’s stay of the ETS. The DOL and OSHA can now resume implementing this workplace health standard. Because Vermont is a State Plan state, Vermont has 30 days to adopt a standard that is at least as effective as what is outlined federally.
