"Council Commissioner's Minute"
We all wish for, and dream of, living a life that is better than we found it. This is a great vision and worthy of achievement. To achieve this great vision, start with this question, “What do we have on the spacecraft that’s good?” We cannot build solutions with the broken parts. We can, however, accomplish miracles with the good parts.

To see what is best, embrace it and compliment it, whether in yourself or others, is the path toward a better future. We each, whether we choose to admit it, adore a compliment. That compliment will spur in each of us, the desire to do more, or be more of the same. The more we focus on the good, the more we will bring out the best in ourselves and others. Over time, the best in each of us will have grown to such strength that, whatever broken parts there may have been, are left behind, no longer an impediment to our future.

Look long into the mirror, look deeply into any group you are in, and ask the question “What do we have on the spacecraft that’s good?” Embrace the answers, and compliment them, then look for more that’s good and repeat. Do this throughout life, and you will find that all of life is better that you found it, for you, and everyone around you.

In my book, this is leadership.

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide all 13 to 20 year old youth members of the Boy Scouts of America with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home units and in other situations that demand leadership of self and others. Training of our youth leadership is important in helping the youth and their units to grow. Over the years the Boy Scouts of America has refined and developed this week-long training experience. Youth from your unit are invited and highly encouraged to participate.

NYLT is open to all Scouts BSA members 13 and older as well as all Venturing Scouts and Sea Scouts. Please remember that this includes both male and female.
We are still waiting for guidance from New York State, but that isn't stopping us from planning a great summer.
