Heart Connections - August 2024

We are excited to share that 106 pets were adopted from GMHS in August! Thank you to the many adopters who opened their heart and home to a homeless pet in need.

If you are ready to make a heart connection, our adoption team would be happy to provide a personalized recommendation. Simply visit our homeless pets Tuesday - Sunday from 12-5 PM.

August 2024 Shelter Snapshot

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners.

GMHS is happy to participate in Clear the Shelters, an annual, nationwide adoption campaign sponsored by Hills Pet Nutrition. Through September 10, the adoption fee for all pets is reduced by 50%. We would love to help you meet your new best friend!

Our friends at Oyster Cove Boatworks and Yacht Brokerage are supporting the homeless pets of GMHS by hosting Fill the Belly of the Boat! During the month of September, you can visit Oyster Cove in Gloucester, Virginia Beach, and Topping to donate pet food, treats, and supplies! With over 400 pets in our care, every item given makes a huge difference. Many thanks to to Oyster Cove for hosting this food/supply drive and thank you to Scotty Signs for generously donating the banners!

Are you looking for a fun opportunity to get outside and enjoy some sunshine? Our shelter dogs are too! From exploring our trails to relaxing in the sunshine in one of our play yards, the dogs appreciate every minute you're willing to sit or walk with them.

Compassionate Community

Thank you so much to Gavin and Colton for raising money at a lemonade stand to help our shelter pets! We are so thankful for your kindness.

Lucas Wells completed his Eagle Scout project, improving the lives of the dogs here at GMHS! He created a new dog walking trail and a new bench for our kennel workers and volunteers to enjoy.

A huge and heartfelt thank you to our friends at The Smile Group for sharing their heart for homeless pets and their commitment to community. They dropped off a special donation for Kane's surgery and a treat for our team members. We are grateful to you all for your life-saving friendship!

Our hearts are filled with gratitude to Diane and Peter Perina of Eastfields Farms, and all who participated in and donated to the recent pick-your-own blueberry fundraiser for GMHS. A total of $3,413 was raised for GMHS--a generous gift with life-saving superpower--and we are grateful beyond measure to all who made the event a success!

Shelter Pet Spotlight - Luna

You must meet Luna! This sweet girl is 9 years old and looking for her forever home. She has lived with cats, dogs, and children previously and did well with all of them. Luna is housetrained, affectionate, and playful. She loves car rides! She was very well behaved in her previous home and came to our shelter at no fault of her own. Let's help this senior sweetheart find her family!
