A Message From Our Visiting Minister

When we pray the Lord’s Prayer we pray that God’s will might be done “on Earth as it is in heaven.” Psalm 82 describes in fuller detail just what that prayer might mean for us. The Psalms present a spectrum of prayer postures before God. They express praise, gratitude, lament, complaint, petitions for intercession, and wisdom. Psalm 82 uses theological imagination to suggest what God might say in the midst of a council managing the universe. The Psalm is directed both to God as a prayer for justice and compassion and it is a call to the people enact this vision on earth.

About Rev. Dr. Mangum

Andy Mangum is the Regional Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest—A position he has held since 2017. Prior to joining the Regional Staff, Andy served 20 years as a local church pastor In Arlington, Irving, and DeSoto and 5 years as a Youth Minister in Weatherford and Amarillo.

Andy is married to Lori, an educational diagnostician. They are the parents of Madison Coleman (married to Taylor) an eighth grade English teacher, Andrew Mangum an event coordinator at West Texas A&M University who is engaged to Lauryn Carroll, and Joshua a high school junior. Their grandchildren are Annie and Ellie Coleman (don't ask about them unless you want to see pictures).

Scripture Reading

Psalm 82 (New Revised Standard Version)

God has taken his place in the divine council;

    in the midst of the gods he holds judgement:

‘How long will you judge unjustly

    and show partiality to the wicked? Selah

Give justice to the weak and the orphan;

    maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute.

Rescue the weak and the needy;

    deliver them from the hand of the wicked.’

They have neither knowledge nor understanding,

    they walk around in darkness;

    all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

I say, ‘You are gods,

    children of the Most High, all of you;

nevertheless, you shall die like mortals,

    and fall like any prince.’

Rise up, O God, judge the earth;

    for all the nations belong to you!

Sunday Worship Masking Recommended

Round Rock Christian Church Congregation,

The Guiding Board is watching the Covid levels in our community and as of this time we are at the level Medium or Yellow. We are strongly recommending that everyone who can please wear a mask during our gathering and worship time. Hopefully the levels will decrease soon, and we can get back to our new normal, but in the meantime stay safe – protect yourself and others – and stay healthy.

If you are at high risk for severe illness, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to wear a mask and take other precautions

Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines

Get tested if you have symptoms

People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.

If you are immunocompromised, learn more about how to protect yourself.

Find out more about the COVID-19 situation in Williamson County, Texas with COVID-19 Data Tracker.

Thank You,

Tasha York

Annual Hopewell Middle School School Supply Drive

The 2022-2023 school year is just around the corner, and, as in the past, the Hopewell Principal (Lynda Garinger) has indicated that many students will still need help with supplies. Hopewell Middle School has requested the continued support of RRCC in providing much needed student school supplies, to begin the school year.

The Principal and Counselors have provided a list of the most needed items and the Outreach Team will purchase the supplies rather than request donations of supplies from RRCC members, to ensure that specific needs are met. Although we do have a budget for Outreach to spend on events and supplies, we are providing an opportunity for additional donations, should anyone be interested in contributing to this worthy cause.

In the five years since we began this project in 2017, we have donated school supplies valued at over $2,700 to the students at Hopewell who need supplies. This will be our 6th year in this partnership, and it is important that the students have the supplies that they need and are engaged academically and know that they are supported by the community. The last two years have been like never before, and this year will surely have its challenges.

Please consider making a contribution to this project with a check or online contribution marked (Hopewell School Supplies) during any week in July. Thank you for your help in supporting the students of Hopewell Middle School, with school supplies, in our on-going effort to "embrace our neighbors with Christ-like love"!

Social Justice Group Began a New Book on June 28

The social justice study book that meets on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., via zoom began a new book on Tuesday, June 28.

This is their second book on race and racism for the group. Mr. Acho is a native of Dallas and the son of Nigerian immigrant parents. He is the host of the hit video series by the same name. Perhaps he is most familiar as a former NFL player and Fox sports analyst. He began his professional career with the Cleveland Browns and later played with the Philadelphia Eagles while earning a master’s degree in the off season at the University of Texas.

New participants are encouraged to join the group. The book is available on Amazon and local bookstores.
