Notes from the Boss Lady

Hello to all of my happy readers! I would like to take a minute to thank ALL of those who sent letters, calls, check-ins, and emails in response to my "notes" from last month. Things are what they are and I am so grateful for each of you, and I am strengthened by your love and support.

Well... Fall is here and it is upon us. Jaycee reports that Pumpkin Spice Lattes are out and about, therefore she is happy and a-buzz. I really do love this time of year also. I love cozy mornings for snuggling and reading and coffee and tea drinking. Puzzling and crocheting blankets and hats are a very fun way for me to pass the time.

For shop info--we have a handy-person in the house these days and some things are FINALLY getting done around here, and I am sooo grateful! Please stop in just to see the fun. My heart is so happy from the idea of tasks just being completed. I know, I am an odd one.

We also have a new team member--she is seasonal until at least the end of January, and her name is Emma and she is working out beautifully. She is a really great addition to the team. She LOVES to read and has such a fun and easygoing attitude, and she puts up with me.

We had a team meeting not too long ago and reviewed what the fall and winter will look like for us and how we are going to still have an amazing, fun, and safe shop while celebrating the holidays, and also the STORE'S Anniversary. Keep your eyes open for the upcoming fun. It was a very productive meeting and we came up with a lot of fun ideas.

Book club starts next month--it will be virtual over Zoom. Please sign up if this interests you. We have a really lovely group, and there are still a few spots available, so respond to this email and let us know if you want to be in the cool club.

I am almost done reading One, Two, Three, by Laurie Frankel, and I am really liking it--I will add more details next month. It is a very interesting telling of a small town, USA. The water is poisoned by a powerful company and nothing is done to stop it, and people die, and some become disabled because of the exposure. The story is about everyone, but is truly told through the voices of a set of triplets...one, two, and three...these are from their birth order. The writing, as always for this author, is out of this world. And the story is complicated and interesting. I have not been reading as much due to my current mood...My next book will be Thirty Names of Night by Zeyn Joukhadar.

That is all for now. Stay safe and happy reading!
Brandy~

In the meantime, we'd love to share what the team is reading!
Jaycee is reading Where I Come From, by Aarón Sánchez. Here's what she thought:

"This is a biography of his life living as a Mexican-American growing up in El Paso and New York. His life was filled with food from a young age, as his mother owned a catering company and went on to pursue more ambitious dreams in New York. We're taken through his life leading up to his Food Network days and the starting of the infamous food channel. I grew up watching Food Network, and was very excited to see Aaron had a biography! I would definitely recommend this for any food lovers--it'll definitely make you hungry!"
Amberly just finished Sad Janet, by Lucie Britsch, and really loved it--here's what she has to say about it:

"Janet is a young woman who works at a dog shelter in the woods, who has just broken up with her boyfriend, and who is self-proclaimed comfortable with being sad most of the time. She has spent a lot of her life resisting pressure from her family to take antidepressants. When a new pill comes out designed solely to 'get you through Christmas,' Janet lets herself be convinced--she accepts the prescription and attends the meetings. This book has really great characters, and it is sad and funny and perfectly written for my sense of humor."
