JULY PARENT NEWS
Dear Parents,

Happy Independence Day! I hope you and your student(s) are having a wonderful summer. Do you ever really pause and ponder the God-given freedom we have in this country? It is so easy to take our liberty for granted, isn’t it? Because of that freedom, we get to worship how we choose and at a place like Northwestern, we can educate the next generation in a Christ-like manner. Praise God!

Maybe this is an age thing (and probably is), but I have given a lot of thought lately to what it means to leave a legacy. As a Christian university, we can look back over the almost 120 years of Northwestern’s existence and see how God’s mighty hand has moved and protected this place we love which now educates your student. We can look at the thousands of current and future UNW alums who are taking the Good News into a lost world. Some may have more prominence but for most of our students and alums, we are doing the day-to-day thing which makes an impact within our own sphere. Bottom line, we are all called to bring Jesus to wherever we are. What does that look like for you? What will that look like for your student? One of my favorite songs of recent is “Only Jesus” by Casting Crowns. It is a great reminder that whoever we are, a Christian university or an individual Christ-follower, what matters is Jesus. I am thankful that here at Northwestern, who we are, what we do, and how we do it is directed by “Only Jesus.”

Serving Jesus Together,

PARENT BLOG
Even as the US leads in global pandemic recovery, we will still be cleaning up pandemic “leftovers.” The same would be true of any physical, emotional, or psychological trauma our sons and daughters have endured in their lives. The point is, traumas from the past don’t stop at the point of changing our lives. They also demand care in recovery. As we pursue healing with intentionality, a scriptural approach to reframing and recovery is exactly what our Master Healer has in mind.

You must be extremely proud of how hard your student is working. This was a record-breaking year for 1:1 career coaching appointments, paid internships, and networking. Did you know that we have over 300 alumni that joined our new Career Communities platform? These professionals are making themselves available to help your student with career advice, informational interviews, networking, and mentoring. Ask your student about their professional development and offer them encouragement for next year. We are here to help.

Catch the replay of professor and student parent Peter Kapsner interviewing published author Courtney Reissig on June 17. Together they talked about emotions and worshipping God through each season of life. Getting to discuss topics like this is a huge part of the blessing that comes from attending a Christian college.

Replay the interview, or catch Courtney LIVE at the Northwestern Christian Writers Conference, July 16-17.
