The goal of the FIF is to provide financing to address critical gaps in pandemic PPR to strengthen country capacity in areas such as disease surveillance, laboratory systems, health workforce, emergency communication and management, and community engagement. The FIF Fact Sheet states: “Will the FIF also fund activities related to One Health (intersection between human health, animal health and environment)? …… Yes, activities related to One Health, which recognize that human and animal health are interdependent and bound to the health of the ecosystems they share, will be eligible for financing from the FIF. A multi-sectoral One Health approach is central to the prevention of public health risks.”
Call to Action!! It is now time for the Global One Health Community to make our voices heard by helping country and regional leaders consider ways to be ready with One Health policies, programs, and projects as governments begin formulating ways to access these new resources!

“This is One Health’s year of recognition, with the World Bank's latest fund for pandemic response… But what about more and sustained action? ….The international community has expressed multiple supportive policy statements and engaged in many conferences; there is vocal and growing support from the scientific community; and substantial new funding, as in the case of the FIF, either exists, is pledged, or is under discussion…..These are all hopeful signs that momentum for the One Health approach is growing in academic, technical, and financial circles, and that low and middle-income country acceptance is increasing – each a necessary condition to transit to large-scale concrete actions. …..But this will only be a reality if the One Health approach is embraced as a core and sustained component of international and national cooperation, coupled with local and external investment.” https://tinyurl.com/3uezztwa

June 2-3, 2022
The Stockholm+50 conference celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first ever United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (1972) that created the UNEP, the UN Environment Program. Stockholm+50 provided an opportunity for co-creation of a multistakeholder approach to accelerate implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030…. in areas fundamental to a sustainable future: the relationship between human(s) and nature, what we invest in, and how resources are used and shared. The Conference Concept paper calls for One Health . (See Item #10) Additionally, the meeting offers an opportunity to explore emerging areas in support of a healthy planet. Possible examples include making universal the recently recognized human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, establishing rights of nature, exploring alternative knowledge systems, adopting a wider “One Health” approach to address issues relating to the human-animal-ecosystem health interface, and recognizing the need to learn from other cultures and paradigms to protect, reciprocate and live in solidarity. https://bit.ly/3y49W1E

One Health in G20 2022 Discussions
The 48th Group of 7 Summit was held in Germany on June 26-28, 2022. The 17th meeting of the Group of 20, hosted by Indonesia, is planned for November, 2022. But things are moving ahead now. On April 21, 2022 the Italian government (which hosted the G20 Summit in 2021) and the Italian business community organized a digital gathering of the B20 (the official G20 private sector engagement group that includes businesses with over 1,000 delegates from major global companies) with the aim to urge the G20 to strengthen the public health sector worldwide.

Other G20 Side Events and discussions leading up to the 2022 November G20 meeting are also happening such as the One Health Side Event held in Lombok, Indonesia on June 8-9, 2022. Additionally, on June 18, G20 Health and Finance ministers considered critical issues related to health system resilience, pandemic preparedness and the future financing of the global response mechanism to defend the world against the next pandemic.

In: TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations called on all countries to implement a One Health approach to prevent, detect, and control emerging zoonotic diseases in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that has threatened health, well-being, and economies of all societies. "We will not prevent future pandemics without One Health, because One Health is the essential part of preventing and managing spillovers from animals to humans," said the FAO Chief Veterinary Officer Keith Sumption. "There is no health without One Health." https://bit.ly/3NxnLeB G20 member countries reflected on the Lombok One Health Brief that set out ten recommendations to strengthen and mainstream the approach at all levels. One of the recommendations is urging the G20 to embrace the One Health Joint Plan of Action (JPA) developed by the Quadripartite (FAO, WOAH, UNEP, WHO)—as an operational framework to achieve national targets and priorities for One Health interventions. Keith Sumption, Chief Veterinary Officer of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) explained that One Health is about protecting the lives of people, plants, animals, and our ecosystems, recognizing how the health of each part is connected. "The concept of One Health has been associated with different interpretations in scope and practice. There is no shortage of “One Health” definitions in the published literature and among institutions and organizations. Therefore, an immediate priority for OHHLEP was to develop consensus around a working definition as a solid basis to support a common understanding among the panel members and the partner organizations. It is also relevant to a much broader global audience. Central to this definition is actual implementation, visualized in Fig 1, taking One Health from theory to practice, as highlighted by the 4 Cs: Communication, Coordination, Collaboration, and Capacity building. In applying the One Health view, we also highlight that it is based on several fundamental principles (Box 1), including equity, inclusivity, equal access, parity, socioecological equilibrium, stewardship, and transdisciplinarity. The application and effectiveness of the definition are incomplete without the monitoring and evaluation of these basic principles. The presented definition also reinforces the overall aims of related concepts, particularly Eco-Health (by highlighting the ecocentric versus anthropocentric scope) and Planetary Health (explicitly acknowledging the relevance of environmental/ecosystem health)."

- Resolution WHA74.7 requests “to build on and strengthen the existing cooperation among WHO, FAO, OIE and UNEP to develop options…including establishing a common strategy on One Health, including a joint workplan on One Health to improve prevention, monitoring, detection, control and containment of zoonotic disease outbreaks”.
- February 2021 the UNEP was invited to join the [One Health] Tripartite (now known as the Quadripartite.
- The four organizations subsequently drafted the One Health Joint Plan of Action to set out future shared activities in One Health

In 2017 the APHA adopted a One Health Policy statement, Advancing a 'One Health' Approach to Promote Health at the Human-Animal-Environment Interface, prepared and brought forward by the APHA One Health Special Primary Interest Group (SPIG). It is a beautiful overview of One Health for the novice. The One Health SPIG has led One Health programming at the annual APHA conference, led One Health webinars for APHA membership and oversees a One Health SPIG newsletter. A recent vote in the APHA midyear Governing Council meeting has declared that SPIG has now grown large enough to officially be declared the One Health 'Section' of APHA. Gaining Section status within APHA is impactful in many ways, including the creation of more opportunities to promote One Health through the allotment of scientific programming, representation in the larger governance structure, and allocation of annual operating funds. During a meeting on One Health that took place in Nairobi, Kenya on 13-14 June 2022, an African Union Interagency Group on One Health was established to coordinate, support, monitor, and evaluate the implementation of the African Union One Health Strategy for Zoonotic Disease Prevention and Control across the Member States. The Coordination Group included The Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC); The African Union InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR); The Scientific, Technical and Research Commission (STRC); The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Blue Economy (DARBE); The Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development (HHS); the InterAfrican Phytosanitary Council (AU-IAPSC); and the Citizens and Diaspora Organizations (CIDO). https://tinyurl.com/35dxctdy

Don't Forget!!!
CABI One Health, a new open access journal, due to be launched later this year as part of a new set of transdisciplinary One Health resources, is now open for submissions. Another part of the CABI One Health initiative is One Health Cases that will provide a growing database of peer-reviewed educational, practical cases, and will be an invaluable resource for students, teachers, academics, public stakeholders, and industry practitioners. A One Health Knowledge Bank will follow later this year, and will be a hub of relevant knowledge, information and data, including journal articles, cases, book chapters, curated species datasheets, and an extensive collection of hard-to-find grey literature in a single searchable database. For those new to One Health, Rudolf Virchow is famous in the One Health community for his comment "Between animal and human medicine there is no dividing line - nor should there be…” In the opening ceremony of the 2021 World Health Summit Professor Dr. Detlev Ganten gave tribute to Rudolf Virchow and announced launch of the Rudolf Virchow Foundation and the Rudolf Virchow Global Prize Summit. The first laureates will be announced in October 2022 at the 2022 World Health Summit. https://bit.ly/3OAtYrm The establishment of the Virchow Prize for Global Health and the Virchow Foundation for Global Health was achieved through civil society commitment. The five founders of the Virchow Foundation for Global Health represent various sectors and disciplines.

March 9, 2022, Buchannan, Liberia – The National One Health Platform of Liberia in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) brought together national One Health actors to review the One Health Monitoring Tool (OHMT), an innovative tool that will be used to monitor One Health progress, assess and evaluate its results and its operational readiness at national level. An electronic, relevant, real-time event base surveillance (EBS) system developed by the One Health Secretariat (OHS) of Bangladesh’s Institute for Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR). The EBS dashboard will provide a more integrated approach to disease surveillance data from different sectors to protect and promote human health, animal health and the safe environment. At present, data are being collected and used separately by the various stakeholders from different e-Systems and are rarely integrated and used jointly and comprehensively at national level to detect the early warning signals which could lead to timely and coordinated actions or detect signals of potential outbreaks and response. This will help Bangladesh and Pakistan not only to prevent and control the event but also national or international communities to participate in any needed assistance. This will also help the country to develop a generic platform, see the trends of endemic emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) and to report any events and progress of any responses. Policymakers will also be able to develop policy from the dashboard. Note: Bangladesh has a One Health National Strategic Action Plan. In Pakistan the Pak One Health Alliance, in close coordination with the Rockefeller Foundation and Ending Pandemics, has also kick-started a project titled “Deploying One Health – Event-Based Surveillance System” in Punjab.

This award went to Dr. Thinlay Bhutia who runs an annual state-wide vaccination program in India which is having a lasting impact on difficult-to-reach, stray dog populations in Sikkim. Second Quadripartite One Health Intelligence Scoping Study (OHISS) Riskscape Workshops
In June 2021, the G7 Health Leaders requested that the Quadripartite (Tripartite at the time) alliance of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH, founded as OIE) conduct a One Health Intelligence scoping study (OHISS) and to identify potential opportunities for further technical harmonization of their systems to strengthen One Health Intelligence. On June 6-10, 2022 the First Quadripartite One Health Intelligence Scoping Study Riskscape Workshop was held to co-construct a conceptual model using a risk-based approach (a riskscape) with examples of key One Health hazards identified by each of the four Quadripartite organizations. The purpose of this 2nd workshop is to share and analyse OHISS' main findings with the External Advisory Group, and to discuss the following points:
- Riskscapes as an approach to One Health intelligence
- National One Health intelligence scoping
- Framework for a Quadripartite approach to operational One Health intelligence
- Next steps for global One Health intelligence?
No recording will be available. The results will be included in the OHISS final report to guide future collaborative activities at the global, regional and national levels.

Four virtual mini-workshops each devoted to a different category of One Health threats. As part of the Quadripartite One Health Intelligence Scoping Study, an expert consultation process was conducted to co-construct a conceptual model using a risk-based approach (a riskscape) with examples of key One Health hazards identified by each of the four Quadripartite organizations. The focus was on utilising the collective scientific knowledge of drivers and impacts of One Health threats, including those that have socioeconomic or ecological repercussions. These workshops advanced understanding of the datasets available and how these datasets relate to the various One Health hazards of concern allowing operational prioritization of data through a risk-based approach. While priorities for data collection, management and analysis may vary from different perspectives, a shared understanding of the riskscape surrounding One Health intelligence will provide a foundation to improve intersectoral exchange of information and build appropriate intelligence systems. There are on-going global discussions about what topics such a legal instrument should cover. This Roundtable highlighted the importance of integrating the One Health approach into pandemic prevention and preparedness as part of a pandemic treaty. Drs.
