MAYOR'S MESSAGE
From Mayor Leonard Desiderio...

If you haven’t already heard, I am pleased to inform you that Sea Isle City was recently ranked sixth among all of New Jersey’s beach towns by nj.com. According to a June 27 article from that publication, two journalists “spent the last two weeks scouting the sand, from Sandy Hook all the way down to Cape May at Exit 0 on the Garden State Parkway,” and along the way they examined each town’s beach qualities, dining and recreation options, and other aspects of life at the Jersey Shore, stating that Sea Isle has “a big, beautiful beach with gorgeous dunes to admire and plenty of soft sand to stretch out on” and “a paved promenade instead of a boardwalk to stroll down…and Fish Alley is loaded with a plethora of tantalizing seafood and Italian food options.”

CITY COUNCIL'S MESSAGE
From The Members of City Council...

At the start of the June 28 City Council meeting, Mayor Desiderio reported that, in-line with the Administration’s annual policy, the City has halted its municipal construction projects until the autumn so not to interfere with everyone’s summer enjoyment. The Mayor also stated that the City’s work force is over 300-strong during the summer season – and that our municipal employees are working hard to ensure that everyone has a good year ahead.

Two ordinances were introduced with first reading on June 28:
  • Ordinance 1684, which was written to establish a 10 MPH speed limit along the promenade and to regulate electric / motorized bicycles, scooters, surreys and skate boards.
  • Ordinance 1685, which was written to amend the laws regarding Recreation activities and fees.

PROJECT UPDATES
In accordance with our typical practice, now that the summer season is here, we try to limit the amount of construction taking place on public property, in order to minimize the disruption to our residents and visitors, as for many, this time of the year is precious. We also are in the process of preparing and putting into place plans for the next round of capital improvements throughout the City. As these projects move forward through the design, bidding, and construction phases, we will continue to provide you with updates on their progress.

Turtles Crossing the Road!

Please drive slowly and look for Diamondback Terrapin Turtles as they cross our busy roads in search of nesting locations.  If you see a turtle crossing the street and you want to assist her, please help her continue in the direction she is headed if you are able – BUT ALWAYS THINK “SAFETY FIRST” and use caution whenever you step into the street.

Please don't stand over turtles taking photos while they are nesting...this may frighten them and they'll walk away. Also, if you see an injured turtle, please call Susan or Steve Ahern, of Sea Isle Terrapin Rescue, at 609-263-7358. If the Aherns are not available, please follow the instructions on their answering machine.
