Houston Public Media's Gail Delaughter Reports on New Bus Shelters for Westheimer

Ricky Gonzalez, team leader for Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc., and Irma Sanchez, Westchase District's vice president of projects, shared Westheimer improvement updates such as the new custom bus shelter (background) with KUHF's Gail Delaughter.

Westchase District's Westheimer streetscape project became more visible when crews from NEC, Inc., recently installed the first of many new modern bus shelters coming to  Westchase District. Anyone walking, cycling and driving on Westheimer Road over the past year within a three-mile stretch of the District will have noticed a lot of construction project activity, including the installation of traffic signal mast arm poles to eventually replace span wires, plus the construction of wider sidewalks and installation of custom designed street pavers and pedestrian lights.

The project caught the attention of Gail Delaughter, Houston Public Media's transportation reporter who covers all aspects of getting around Houston, from walking, driving, and cycling to riding transit.

Delaughter wanted to learn more about the District's efforts to ensure a smoother, cleaner transit experience for people riding on METRO buses, and the functionality of the new shelters. The Westheimer route is METRO's busiest and one of its largest service areas in the city. Read More
Former Collegiate Track Star Ron Broadnax Enjoys Patrol

Officer Ron Broadnax is the newest member of Westchase District Patrol.

Ofc. Ron Broadnax is one of the newest members of Westchase District Patrol, joining the District five months ago. If you have been out on the expansive Westchase District Trail System, you have likely crossed paths with him and his partner, Ofc. Zhen Wang, on patrol bikes.

"The trails are an excellent way to cover the District because you can get to anywhere fast," said Broadnax. In fact, Broadnax knows about speed and agility. He was recruited on a track scholarship out of high school in Seguin to attend the University of Houston. He stayed in the city following graduation where he was hired for his first job working for Velocity Sports Performance, training younger athletes how to condition and maximize their bodies for high level of competition. District F Career Fair, Aug. 14

The Office of District F Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas is hosting a Career Fair on Saturday, Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Career Fair will be held at the Alief ISD Center for Advanced Careers on 12160 Richmond Avenue. The Career Fair's purpose is to help people get jobs.

Employers and companies who are hiring for open positions are encouraged to register for the Career Fair by contacting Cherrelle Duncan, Chief of Staff, Office of Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas, District F via email.  

A resume workshop on how to write cover letters and develop resumes will be held offsite in advance of the fair. The workshop will be offered to individuals seeking employment opportunities who register for the Career Fair.

Quillian Makes Pool Fun When the Sun Goes Down
