Real Food Real Local Real Soon
West End Ciderhouse Now Open
Thank You Project C

We have been very busy planning for the upcoming Real Food Real Local Conference. Hope to see you there!

Real Food Real Local Real Soon:
Less than 2 weeks remaining!

The Real Food Real Local Conference will be here before you know it but there is still time to register! As always, we have lined up a diverse array of experts to engage with track participants. Local food champions will be sharing their wit, wisdom and grassroots experience throughout the event.

Wednesday and Thursday will feature workshops, panel discussions, speakers, and delicious locally sourced food. (Lunches are included in your registration fee!) For those who are interested in seeing the inner-workings of SE Ohio's food system,Thursday afternoon and Friday tours will offer the opportunity to visit a sampling of farms and local food businesses to see the creative ways entrepreneurs are participating in and strengthening the local food economy in the Athens area.

Evening receptions will take place in Uptown Athens establishements and locavore eateries following the sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

This year we have changed the conference structure to allow for increased choice in learning styles. Participants can take a deep dive into one of our Long Track themes or bounce in and out of shorter sessions. Our Long Track sessions offer back-to-back highly interactive presentations on particular themes and topics. Short Track sessions feature stand-alone topics and many include panels of experts.

Participants may come for a day or register for the entire conference. We are offering discounts for groups wishing to attend the event. Don't miss this great opportunity to share ideas, and learn strategies to energize local food efforts in your home region.

As the date approaches, it is important for us to have an estimate of how many lunches we'll need to order. If you know you wish to attend the conference don't hesitate to register! Also be sure to register for lodging before the Real Food Real Local Holiday Inn discount deal ends June 1st. We hope to see you there.

Grandly Opened:
West End Ciderhouse Serves Finely Crafted Beverages

The long-anticipated West End Ciderhouse is now open! The May 24th opening night was attended by many locals enthusiastic to support the new locavore business.
Owner Deanna Schwartz and distiller Kelly Sauber of Fifth Element Spirits began renovations on the old West End Tavern back in the fall as they planned the opening of the West End Ciderhouse.

With over 18 years of experience as a zymurgist and distiller, Kelly will ferment the ciders on-site using locally sourced fruits. In addition to ciders, Fifth Element Spirits are utilized in the variety of cocktails served at the Ciderhouse. Kelly founded Fifth Element Spirits, formerly known as the Dancing Tree Distillery, four years ago in Meigs County. A range of locally sourced Fifth Element products can be found in Uptown bars as well as in a few local grocery stores and at the Fifth Element Spirits tasting room.

The West End Ciderhouse will be open Tuesday-Saturday from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m but Schwartz said these hours may be expanded in the future. Come enjoy this new venue and visit with other enthusiasts of finely crafted alcoholic beverages.

The Ciderhouse will be a tour stop during one of the Real Food Real Local Friday tours
Project C Video
ACEnet would like to thank the Ohio University Project C student group for their hard work! Project C raised  $2,779.10 to be distributed between four non-profits. ACEnet will be utilizing our award of just under $600 to make some long awaited upgrades to our training technology.

In addition to raising funds, Project C students compiled information into graphics and a short film to help educate the public about each organization. Check out this brief piece about the ACEnet facilities.

We appreciate all of your support. Thank you for voting for us!
