New Summer Childcare at Pierz Schools, Kidspace Sign-up

Holy Trinity Kids Place has provided school-age care for the Pierz Community since it opened over 10 years ago. Changes in their operation and increased demand from the community prompted a needs assessment which determined that Pioneer Elementary will open summer school-age childcare.

With over 20 years of combined experience, Ms. Jessica Adamski and Ms. Steph Kotta are excited to co-direct the new program at Pierz Schools. Registration is happening right now for families who are looking for full-time care for the summer. This is a license-exempt program and will start small asking families to pack lunches for the students. Plans are to take walking trips to local sites in town and a few field trips to nearby attractions.

Registration for part-time care a few days a week will open based on availability on April 1. To register, pay the $25 registration fee to guarantee a spot and complete the Google form.

If you have more questions about the summer program, you can check our FAQ file and contact the Community Education office at 320-468-6458 ext 7

Happenings at Healy

I Love to Read Month Wrapped up with Malawi Connection

Students in Mrs. Welle's CSI classes took time out to read to our friends at the Helping Hands Orphanage in Malawi. As you may recall, last spring staff at Pierz Schools sent boxes of books to the orphanage in need as they had none. Last week, the children at the orphanage were able to see and hear our high schoolers read to them. We aren't sure which group loved it more--us or them!

Healy Ag Students Sharing Knowledge

Students in Mrs. Tax's Intro to Ag classes created lessons and presented to Pioneer Elementary second graders on topics including animal safety, machine safety, electrical and chemical safety, and grain and forage safety. The hope is that this will grow to be an annual 'Ag Fair' attended by other students and community members.

Celebrating the Author's Birthday with Dr. Seuss Week

Kindergartners and preschoolers (and staff!) celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday (March 2) with book-themed dress-up days, snacks, and activities.

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!"

Local Authors Visit with Fifth Graders

As part of I Love to Read Month activities at Pioneer, fifth graders had the opportunity to hang out with and learn from local authors. Our own ASPIRE teacher, Mrs. Sadlovsky, has written My Dad’s Baseball Game; A Mother’s Journal to Her Newborn; and Connecting to Learn Curriculum, co-author). Sixth-grade teacher, Mrs. Sandy, authored Awesome Possum and The Downside Up. They talked to students about the writing process—coming up with ideas for a book, finding inspiration, ways to publish, and why writing is an important skill to practice.
