ANNUAL DRIVE FOR VERNONS HOMELESS
BY FAWN & FAMILY
Our 3rd year spending Christmas Eve on the streets of Vernon,
In the words of the Upper Room Mission, “In a recent study, 224 people had no place to live in Vernon, BC. This was an increase of 33% from the 2019 homeless statistics of 151 people. Not everyone that is homeless lives unsheltered lives. Some have a place to sleep in our Amalgamated Shelter, live in motels, or couch serves with friends and family. According to the study, 54 people live unsheltered lives. This means that 54 people live rough on the streets and in our parks in Vernon with no place to call home.”
On Christmas Eve night, with the help of the North Westside Community, we are averaging reaching 40 men and 20 women with homeless care gift packages. Right on par with the study on Vernon’s homeless.
We start later in the evening when the shelters close their doors to reach the most needy. The packages contain basics like water protein shakes granola bars and snacks. There is no running water when you are on the streets, especially in winter.
However, these packages are bursting with Christmas cheers. Chocolate, body sprays, hair accessories, flashlights, batteries, cigarettes, lighters, green mile cheer.
We are still desperately needing donations.
Thank you,
McColl’s and Williamson’s
P.S. Big Shout out to the wonderful people who have already generously donated:
Linda Jeanotte & Michelle Carson for their loyalty every single year
Donna Green, Camille and Donna Steele, Jennifer Carlson & Chris Bradley.
Huge shout out to James and Tessa of Westside Dreams for the yearly extra cheer!
And the list goes on.. thank you Westsiders!!
You can find Fawn on People of the North Westside fb page or reply to this newsletter for her contact info.
Thank you, Fawn and family, you are awesome!

HOMESCHOOLERS & YOUR NWCA COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Over the past year your library volunteers have met many homeschooling families living in our community and we are wanting to make the Community Library a valuable resource for these families.
Firstly, we are dedicating free, full access to the library and its books, games, computer, printer and craft materials every Friday from 10 am to 2 pm specifically for homeschooling families to use and meet with other homeschooling families. Perhaps there is an opportunity to combine studies between families?
To make this possible we ask that all interested homeschooling families contact Andrea @ akveton61@gmail.com and we can discuss accessing the library resources and share ideas on how the library can support you.
The library also is happy to accept any donations of homeschooling materials and resources that would benefit other homeschooling families. Thanks all!
