U.S. Department of Education Announces Intent to Strengthen and Protect Rights for Students with Disabilities by Amending Regulations Implementing Section 504
Forty-five years after the publication of the regulations implementing Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the landmark disability civil rights law, the U.S. Department of Education announced plans to gather public input on possible amendments to those regulations in order to strengthen and protect the rights of students with disabilities.
Turning Point CT
TurningPointCT.org was developed by young people in Connecticut who are in recovery from mental health and substance use issues. While they’re not clinicians, they know what it’s like to feel alone, stressed, worried, sad, and angry. They’ve lived through the ups and downs of self-harm, drugs, and alcohol, and the struggle to find help. Fortunately, they found what worked for them. Turning Point CT's goal is to provide information and support to help others choose their path so that you don’t have to struggle the way they did.
Why Self-Care Is Essential to Parenting
Parenting can be stressful under the best of circumstances, but moms and dads of children with developmental and mental health challenges often have to deal with strains of a different magnitude. Caring for a child with special needs can become a full-time job — and an overwhelming one at that, if you don’t have adequate support. Without enough help, parents may be headed toward caregiver burnout, which negatively affects everyone.
How CPAC's Youth Advisory Board
Supports their Mental Health
Ally Kernan, Youth Coordinator

One of the things I do to support my mental wellness is spending time practicing self-care. Often, I'll cancel or reschedule self-care plans which end up making my symptoms much worse. For the past few years, I have been consistent in practicing self-care and I've noticed that my symptoms are much more manageable.
Michael Scanlon, Youth Coordinator

I support my mental health by walking outside. I am lucky to live by a local nature trail, and I take time each day for myself to get outside. It really does reset me, and I feel the difference when I skip a day.
