While it increasingly looks like we won't get another big Apple event launching new products this month, we still have much to look forward to. Soon-ish, Apple will release macOS Ventura (version 13). While this, like every major OS release, holds the promise of major new OS features, keep in mind that upgrading to Ventura will not magically "unlock" hidden features in Final Cut, Premiere or Resolve.

As always, you should delay upgrading any computer system that you count upon to meet deadlines until Apple has time to fix bugs and stabilize the new release. For me, that means waiting until a .1 update is released in the next few months.

In the news:

Last week's webinar - Animate Text Using Apple Keynote - was very popular with hundreds of viewers. One of the discussions was whether we can create text style sheets to simplify text formatting in Keynote. So many questions, in fact, that I did some research, then wrote a tutorial about it. Style sheets are possible, but they are more limited than you might think.

The next two tutorials were suggested by Tony, who wanted to know how to animate graphic elements to illustrate a scientific point. I spent a lot of time thinking about this until I realized that the solution didn't involve video, it involved graphics. So, I wrote two tutorials: one for Final Cut and one for Premiere.

Fall is my favorite season. I woke up this morning to discover frost covering nearby roof tops. Trees are morphing into glorious colors - at least here in New England. And, just as the seasons remind us of time's passing, October brings changes in technology as well. Amidst this whirlwind of change it can be hard to remember that what makes us special is not the gear we use but the stories we tell.

Until next week, stay safe, stay hopeful and edit well.
