Special Announcement

From Deep Roots, New Life

“Talking about coaching is inherently being a little vulnerable, because if I’m saying, ‘I’d like coaching,’ I must be saying, ‘I need help.’ But of course, we all do need help, and it’s a great thing to have your diocese say, ‘We expect and want you to ask for help. In fact, we’ll find someone to support you.'"

— The Rev. Reed Loy

In this week’s testimonial video, the Rev. Reed Loy, rector of St. Andrew’s, Hopkinton, shares his experience with the Coaching Fund—one of the five funding priorities of the From New Deep Roots, New Life capital campaign.

This campaign is focused on investing in our people, not buildings. From Deep Roots, New Life allows us to create a lasting endowment to train, place, and support the lay and ordained leaders in our churches—all our churches, both big and small.

5/19 CGS Book Group Discussion Maureen Fry and the Angel of the North by Rachel Joyce. Suggested by CGS Book Group 2022-2023 "Completing her trilogy of bestselling novels that began with The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Joyce returns with a beautiful novella about motherhood, grief and the power of forgiveness. A decade on from her husband’s epic pilgrimage, Maureen undertakes a journey of her own, in search of answers about their son’s suicide. Prickly and wary of strangers, Maureen is nonetheless portrayed with compassion and tenderness by Joyce, and the novel’s conclusion is deeply moving and life-affirming." (www.theguardian.com)

WORKSHOPS

5/19, 12:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Goldwork Embroidery Class with Emily Adams

Have you ever admired the beautiful embroideries on our church vestments and altar frontals, and wondered how they were made? Then this class is for you! This afternoon workshop will cover the basics of goldwork embroidery, which has been used to decorate ecclesiastical textiles for centuries. With Emily's patient and expert instruction, we'll work on embroidering the CGS cross using kits she provides. In addition to embroidery techniques, we’ll also talk a bit about the history, use, and meaning of church embroideries. The kit included with the class provides the threads, fabric, and design to create your own goldwork embroidered cross, similar to the ones found in our sanctuary. There will be a limit of 10 kits, which cost $20. Please bring your own sewing scissors if possible. This class is geared towards beginners, and no prior embroidery experience is necessary to stitch this design. Only two spots left!!!!

Church Pension Group Releases Report on the Origins and Sources of Its Assets

The Church Pension Group (CPG), a financial services organization that serves The Episcopal Church, recently released a report on the origins and sources of its assets. This report was developed in response to a resolution from the 80th General Convention. To better understand historical financial connections to the enslavement of humans, the slave trade, and racial injustice, Resolution 2022-A129 urged CPG to research the sources of wealth of the donors to The Church Pension Fund (CPF), which was founded in 1917, and share the results. Read more here.
