City of Santa Fe

Weekly Wrap

Highlights from the Week of October 3, 2022

Permanent Waterwise Program

The City's Certified Waterwise pilot project, which has helped Santa Fe businesses realize extensive water savings since its initial launch in 2018, is now permanent. The pilot has saved 2.1 million gallons of water per year over the last four years, and to date, 110 commercial establishments – restaurants, museums, hotels, and small businesses – have participated in the free program to help them save water AND money.

Businesses that sign up will receive a free water usage assessment, which includes checking for leaks and replacing aerators and other devices, as well as a comprehensive report with recommendations on potential equipment and operational changes for further water savings. Visit the City of Santa Fe Water Conservation website for more info about how you can participate in water-saving opportunities for your home or business!

Santa Fe Wins (Again)

Santa Fe has received the #3 spot in the category of “Best Small Cities in the U.S.” in this year's Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards!

The ranking is based on the responses of more than 240,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers across the globe, and Santa Fe has finished as a top five city in the annual survey since 2014.

Speaking of wins, two Santa Fe restaurants also recently made the list for the Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Awards – Best Fine Dining Category. Hooray for all things Santa Fe!

River Talks 2022 Wrapped Up

This year's River Talks have concluded! Thank you to the presenters who volunteered their time to teach community members about our history, culture, and urban environment in the context of rivers and watersheds, and a very special thanks to the attendees who were actively engaged and genuinely curious to learn more about the topics. We had a great group of folks who asked insightful questions, and we are already looking forward to next year's talks!

Tournament Funding ForeKids

ICYMI (in case you missed it): at the Governing Body meeting on Sept. 14th, Recreation Division staff presented a check from the ForeKids Annual Golf Event for $17,220. Since 1998, this tournament has awarded 36,000+ scholarships and raised over $239,000+ to assist youth to participate in recreational opportunities! Thank you to all the event organizers and attendees who made this year's fundraiser such a success.

Parks Volunteers At Work Again

At a recent Adopt-A-Park volunteer workday at Patrick Smith Park, civic-minded community members once again teamed up with the Parks and Open Space Division to spruce up the park and parking lot areas: cleaning and disinfecting tables, picking up trash, repainting, and more. We are always appreciative of these volunteers and their work with Parks and Open Space to give back to the Santa Fe community!

Join Our Team – Be A Lifeguard

Reminder: our lifeguard recruitment event is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center. Any interested applicants over 16 years old (or 15 years old with a workers' permit) are invited, and certified lifeguards can apply on the spot and have a preliminary consultation with management. Uncertified attendees can test their abilities, interview, and learn about certification courses. Bring a swimsuit!
