This has been a week of challenges, from a technology standpoint. First, the livestream went down just as service was starting on Sunday. (It is scheduled to be repaired tomorrow, but we do have two backup plans in place, if needed.)
Then, our phone system was disabled. We are undergoing a phone system transition that has been anything but smooth, and lost the ability to receive calls or even check voicemails for at least a week. We sincerely apologize if you have tried to call the office and/or left a message and we did not respond. We are working to resolve the situation and it may be fixed any moment now, but in the meantime, all calls will be forwarded to a staff member's personal phone.

PETITION DRIVE-THRU

Starting this Saturday, the Church & Society team will be hosting Drive Thru times for petition signings in our church parking lot throughout the month of August. Drive by for more information and to view and sign the petitions. New volunteers are welcome.
Thursdays: 7:30 -10:00 and 4:00 – 6:00.
Saturdays: 8:00 -10:00
Sundays: 8:00 - 9:00 and 10:00 -12:00

We will host Family Promise, an emergency shelter for families and their pets, in person next week, August 8-15. Thank you for your generosity in supporting this program throughout the pandemic when the families were housed at the Family Promise Day Center. We are excited to have them back on our campus again! Volunteers are needed to help set up the families' rooms, cook, clean, grocery shop, entertain, spend the night, and restore the families' rooms at the end of the week. Please look for us after service, or email Maria to sign up. Click HERE for a list of needed items. Donations may be dropped off in the kitchen on Sunday morning between 8:15 and 11am or 4:30-6:00pm.

Step-Up Sunday is August 8. Our “official” return of the school year, all children and youth advance to their next classes on this date. Email Emily with questions or if you are interested in helping lead one of our Children’s Sunday school classes.

To celebrate all children and youth "Stepping Up", they will receive a free sno-cone to go on Sunday after church. Everybody is welcome to purchase one of our cold and refreshing treats on the patio after services for just $1, with proceeds going to help build another (our third?) clean water well in Liberia. |

Cherub, Children’s, and Youth choirs will hold their first rehearsals next Wednesday, August 11. Masks are required for all participants.

Dayspring and Aldersgate UMC have been working together over the past two years as a cooperative parish as we seek to renew and deepen relationships within our Tempe and Phoenix neighborhoods with the shared purpose of creating a world that is more peaceful, compassionate, just and inclusive. In the spring of 2020, we had planned to vote to move into the next phase of this relationship which would involve approval for Dayspring UMC to develop a second ministry site at Aldersgate UMC as Aldersgate closes. Please join us for a special Charge Conference on August 30 at noon via zoom as we pick up where we left off with the pandemic, with this next step in our relationship with both Aldersgate UMC and the Arcadia and surrounding neighborhood. |

Our 24th Annual Labor Day All-Church Campout is on the books for Sept 3-6 at Hoyer Campground in Greer! It is hoped we can resume our regular activities of shared meals, church, group campfires, hikes, etc. Registration begins August 1, but you may preregister now: email Carol Muggeridge or call/text her at 480-221-6136.

We are collecting school supplies for our partner schools, Frank Elementary George Gervin Prep. The schoold have identified the following needs:
Frank School: Child’s underwear (size 2-6) and socks, small prizes for the student store, masks, sanitizing wipes, tissue boxes, yellow #2 pencils, erasers, school supplies (copy paper, notebooks, scissors, crayons, folders, etc.), and individual condiment packets for school meals ( salt, pepper, hot sauce, etc.).
George Gervin Prep: Felt erasers and markers for dry erase boards, water bottles, composition books, scissors, and student headphones w/ microphones.
Supplies may be dropped off in the narthex on Sunday mornings or at the petition drive thrus (times listed above).

The International Rescue Committee is now receiving asylum seekers and refugees on a nearly daily basis. This means that we are processing from 100 to 200 people per day. This has resulted in extremely depleted stocks of clothing and shoes.
We are especially in need of pants and slacks for men and women. For men we desperately need sizes 30, 32 and 34. They need to be good working pants. We do not need dress pants. The pants need to be new or gently used. For women we need small and medium sizes and like many women in this country there seems to be a preference for leggings. Again the leggings or pants need to be new or gently used. We again do not need dressy slacks.
We are also in need of shoes. For men we need smaller sizes 8, 9, 10. We do not need dress shoes. Needed are athletic and tennis shoes. Sturdy work boots are also needed by some. Additionally a few “flip flops” would be helpful. The shoes should be new or gently used. Women are in need of tennis and athletic shoes in smaller sizes such as 6, 7, 8 and 9. Some “flip flops” would also be useful. We do not need high heels or other dress shoes.

We welcome our new Youth Ministries Coordinator, Erin Larkin!
Erin was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. She was inspired by her high school youth group days which led her to get a Bachelors in Psychology and Theology so she could live her dream as a teacher and youth minister. After ministering for several years in Chicago, Erin began a pathway to life coaching and business coaching - working with entrepreneurs, corporate companies, and CEO's.
She is a five-time marathoner, a collegiate golfer, a chocolate chip cookie junkie, and if you ask her anything about the Chicago Cubs, she will know the answer.
Erin and her wife Jamie found Dayspring in 2017 while dating as a faith and church community which is a pillar for them. Pastor Jeff and Pastor Joel blessed their wedding rings before being married and in April, they welcomed into the world their baby girl Nora.
Her mission as a Youth Ministries Coordinator is to ensure every youth knows this: "You weren't an accident. You weren't mass produced. You aren't an assembly-line product. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted, and lovingly positioned on the earth according to God".
