Holy Eucharist Rite I at 8:00 am
Holy Eucharist Rite II at 10:30 am
From Father David +
ALL ARE WELCOME

One of the key characteristics of the Episcopal Church is “hospitality”. All are welcome in our parish and there is no expectation of leaving your brain or other baggage outside the doors of the church. We are an “inclusive” Christian Tradition that welcomes debate, opinions, and points of view from a varied spectrum of people and their heritage. The hospitality shared by our parish is a mainstay trademark of Resurrection.

Many of my fondest memories will be of the celebrations and receptions that have taken place in our hallowed spaces. Being hospitable and welcoming can be difficult, especially in the current day’s environments with many dividing issues that include safety and wellbeing. Being a welcoming church is purely by choice and commitment. When was the last time you were asked to move from your sitting place in church because you were sitting in someone’s predetermined pew space? When was the last time you felt unwelcome because know one introduced themselves or made you feel welcome? Have you attended a church where the minister did not welcome you or thank you for attending? I think you can tell where I am going with all this. One of the major comments from parishioners who visited our parish and came back, later to be part of the parish family, is that they felt welcome the first time they came in the door.

Many thanks to all of you who have made the effort to welcome and introduce newcomers into our parish and its liturgy. I would like to specifically call out Elaine Gilligan who religiously identifies our visitors and follows up with them with tokens of who we are as Episcopalians at Resurrection. Her personal delivery of our drink mug and other welcoming goodies has made a big impression on people as they search for a welcoming church to become part of their spiritual life. The celebrations of hospitality that draw us into fellowship outside or our service liturgies are the many planned and otherwise spontaneous get togethers that help us enjoy our lives together.

Janeece Buckner and Janet Woodward, and the many other members and helpers of the “Hospitality Team Ministry” are some of the most committed and hardest working volunteers within our parish ministry teams. Whether it is a special dinner setting to raise funds for a cause, to celebrate a special Sunday event associated with our seasonal feasts, a church rummage sale, or the most important receptions following significant events like weddings and celebrations of lives passed on, our Hospitality Team always rises beyond the expectations for the cause. So, I tip my hat and ask that each time you join the parish in fellowship, celebrations, even and especially coffee hour periods, give thanks to those who are serving in all the capacities for all of us.

Too many to name, individually, I ask God’s blessings on all who volunteer to serve in Resurrection’s ministry of hospitality and welcome!

Most sincerely, Fr. David +

Central Deanery Picnic - Register Below
SATURDAY, JULY 23
NOON - 4:00 PM

The Deanery will provide hotdogs, hamburgers, condiments, chips, lemonade, and slushies. We encourage those who are able to bring a side dish or dessert, outdoor chairs, lawn games, and individual coolers with your own beverages of choice.

Because we anticipate the event day being hot and sunny, we will have an outdoor event tent for shade with tables for seating. We will have an inflatable water slide for children of all ages. A slushie machine will also be available to help all stay cool in a fun way.

There will also be seating in the church for those who would like to stay cool. We will be serving food and drinks indoors so dishes can stay at a proper temperature.

Our hope for this event is that as many Episcopalians as possible from across the deanery might gather to connect, so please plan to join us. To that end, we ask that interested participants register to join so we can plan accordingly. RSVP via the link below.
