Caregiver Newsletter

What if you could help educate others on what it is like to care for a person living with dementia?
Carly Berube is a student filmmaker at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and a caregiver:
“In 2016, my grandmother was diagnosed with Dementia. In the years since then, I have watched as my grandmother has slowly slipped away, as well as watching my mother and uncle struggle after having to suddenly become her caregivers.
For my senior thesis film, I am looking to produce a documentary about dementia caregivers and their struggles, as well as society’s lack of awareness of those struggles.”

Carly is looking for anyone who would be interested in sharing their caregiving story or even learning more about the film project. Those interested should contact Carly directly at: 603-970-0138 or email cberube1977@gmail.com

This is an excellent opportunity for those who know firsthand and have a front row seat to caring for and residing with a person living with dementia to help educate the masses! No matter the stage of the disease, it can be difficult to convey to others, including family, exactly what it means to live day in and day out either caring for someone with dementia or even supporting their primary caregiver. Please help us get the word out by reaching out to Carly and taking part in this incredible project. Thank you!
What is Project Sherpa?
Have you ever left a doctor's appointment with more concerns or questions than before you went in?
Perhaps you felt rushed or were embarrassed, even hesitant to ask for more details?
Would you find it helpful if a doctor accompanied you and/or your care recipient to their next medical appointment to be an advocate on your behalf?
Project Sherpa's retired medical professional volunteers do just that at no charge! Your Sherpa will help ask questions and gather all the facts so that, together, you can make the best medical decisions for you, or your loved one's care.
CLICK HERE for more information or call our office at 912-629-1331.
Project Sherpa is a complimentary service of the Edel Caregiver Institute.

Learn to anticipate the struggles and how to be better prepared. Recognize your loved one's point of view, understand where they are coming from, comprehend the grieving of loss that comes with dementia, and develop a better understanding of what is possible and what is not.
Jill Costello is a Certified Dementia Consultant under Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care and is available for individual caregiver consultations at no financial cost to you.
I am certified to implement the teachings and trainings about dementia of Teepa Snow and the Positive Approach to Care® (PAC). Restorative Yoga and Deep Relaxation via ZOOM
Caregiver Stress Relief: Schedule some relaxation time just for you!
To participate with our on-line ZOOM class: CLICK HERE TO REGISTER. The ZOOM link will be emailed the Wednesday evening prior to Thursday morning’s class.

Due to ongoing covid restrictions, restorative yoga will resume meeting on line via ZOOM for the time being. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Join us for a yoga session focused on relaxation and quieting the mind. This is not a stretching class, instead props such as bolsters and blankets are used to support the body. This allows the breath to move freely, encouraging the muscles to relax, and the mind to quiet. Within a short time, this practice encourages you to become submerged in a deeply relaxed state and drop into the silent space within. No previous experience is necessary. Dress comfortably for movement.
