In the beginning God created…
 - Genesis 1:1

“Zip.” “Zero.” “Zilch.” “Nothing.” “Notta.” “Nothin.’”

Before anything was or is, there was God. It was God who created all things, and God who still creates. It is God who creates -out of nothin’! One of my favorite terms when I reflect upon my Lord is the latin term ex nihilo, which means “out of nothing.”

No other 'creator' starts with nothing. The author creates dramatic stories of mystery and intrigue, but the writer needs a laptop. The preschooler builds a house of blocks, but the child needs blocks. The artist paints a masterpiece, but the painter needs, you guessed it, paint. God starts with nothing and creates everything out of nothing, ex nihilo, and creates everything. Humans make things only by rearranging what God has already created (think about that for a moment). God creates by speaking things into existence, and only God can do that!

Invite your friends and family to church to hear God’s incredible story- The Story we are a part of. We will start and end with God, and see that He is the One who creates, gives life, and redeems.

This Sunday, we begin the journey into God’s story that we are so blessed to be a part of. I can’t wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
