"All Nighter" From Pastor Rob
Want to walk around downtown Chapel Hill with me, all night long? University Baptist Church is hosting the “Franklin All Nighter” that begins at sundown on November 5 and ends at sunrise on November 6. The walk is meant to raise funds and awareness for mental health. You can see all the details HERE.
I hope we can put together a team of walkers from Hillside church. With five or six walkers, you’ll get a nice nap in between your assigned walking times. When you walk, it’s a one-mile loop, about 17-25 minutes walking time, depending on your speed.
Come on Hillside, let’s represent. We’ll be doing something together, we’ll be supporting a fellow-CBF church, and we’ll be contributing to a good cause. If you want to be on Pastor Rob’s all-night team, email or text (919-357-0211) to let me know.

CBF Offering for Global Missions Week of Prayer
October 16 to October 21
Prayer Circle
God invites us to join with CBF field personnel in welcoming everyone to the table. In another week, we will be participating in a special emphasis on Global Missions. We will spend a week in prayer and preparing to give. When we give to the Offering for Global Missions, we provide for the long-term presence of more than 50 field personnel in 18 countries - who cultivate beloved community, bear witness to Jesus Christ and seek transformational development as they invite one and all to the table. Join in praying for the invitations being extended around the world — a place at the table for everyone made possible by the Offering for Global Missions.
Special offering envelopes for your Global Missions gift are in the Worship Center.
Meet Our New Intern
Erin
Hello, Hillside family! My name is Erin Stratton, and I will be with you all this academic year for my field education placement. I attend Duke Divinity where I am working towards my Master of Divinity degree. I am originally from the Chicagoland area, but moved here by way of Malibu, California where I completed my undergraduate studies at Pepperdine University in Religion, Multimedia Design, and Sustainability. While in California I met my now-husband, Jordan, who you will also see around the church. We live in Durham with our 4-month-old puppy, Winston, who makes our life a little extra difficult but a lotta extra fun. When I'm not in school or at church I love to spend time outside in nature or working on craft projects. I can't wait to get to know each of you this year!
Give to Hurricane Relief
CBF Disaster Response is working with field personnel and partner congregations in Florida and the Caribbean Islands to provide assistance during recovery efforts in the weeks and months ahead. Prayerfully consider a gift to support these efforts. Please give generously HERE
FOOD PANTRY NEWS
  • WE'RE APPROVED! - On September 21st, Hillside Church Food Pantry passed inspection and was approved as a partner agency by the NC Food Bank. Thanks to Candy Tennant and many volunteers, we were able to make the changes needed to meet Food Bank regulations (Take a look downstairs to see the changes!). Hillside Church is now responsible for the day-to-day operations of our bimonthly food distribution. Previously, we were operating under the sponsorship of our partner, The Point Church (now known as Trailhead Church). Due to extenuating circumstances, they could no longer be the food pantry sponsor.
  • WE HAVE NEW IPADS! - Through a Federal Grant, we have 2 new iPads that will allow us to go ‘paperless’ to register and check-in clients
  • WI-FI SIGNAL EXTENSION - The church wi-fi can now reach into the lower parking lot so we can use our new iPads to interact with clients while they are in their cars.
DID YOU KNOW?
Diane & Candy at Food Distribution
  • We serve 600-700 individuals/180-200 households each month
  • We deliver to approximately 16 homebound clients
  • We started with one chest freezer and one refrigerator and now have 4 freezers and 2 commercial refrigerators
  • Each month we receive approximately 2,000 lbs of canned and frozen food from the Food Bank
  • While we only hold 2 distributions a month, the food pantry is active almost every day accepting donations, shelving food stuffs and other tasks
  • 40 volunteers are needed each food distribution to shelve food, pick up food, bag groceries, set up on Saturday mornings, deliver groceries, register new clients, check returning clients in and load cars with groceries
It's exciting but requires resources, energy and many people!
WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE FOOD PANTRY?
  • We are applying for a grant to purchase wi-fi enabled (“smart”) refrigerator/freezer thermometers. We are required to record the temps of all our units once a day. Having smart thermometers makes it easier to record daily temps and be alerted if a unit is failing.
  • We are also investigating the purchase of a walk-in cooler as we have reached capacity of our current refrigeration. We are in the exploratory stage but we are very excited about the possibilities.
  • We need to purchase a sturdy but storable step stool and an extension cord

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
  • Volunteer! We need a lot of volunteers to keep the pantry running.
  • Give financially! Walk-in refrigerators are costly! Your donation will help us reach our goal of a new refrigeration system!
We are thankful for all your support. If you have questions about any of this information - please reach out to Diane or Candy.
