🦠COVID-19 Updates: Orange Tier!
|
|
Under the "Blueprint for a Safer Economy" guidelines, Sonoma County is currently in the "Orange Tier." This means that Sonoma County 4-H programs can have outdoor group education or recreation for both youth and adults as long as guidance for physical distancing and face coverings is adhered to and there is no shared equipment use.
The Sonoma County 4-H office has reopened to the public from 8am -12pm. We would still prefer if you called ahead before stopping by.

Vaccine Resources for Eligible Youth
|
|
Sonoma County Public Health is working closely with the Sonoma County Office of Education on outreach to schools and school-based groups regarding vaccination opportunities for 16-17-year-olds.
All Californians age 16 and older are currently eligible for vaccination. There are clinics located conveniently around Sonoma County. *Please note that Pfizer is the only vaccine currently approved for youth aged 16-17 years.
- Safeway is conducting clinics at high schools in Santa Rosa and Sonoma for youth 16-17 years old and their families. Upcoming clinics are Wednesday 5/12 at Sonoma Valley High, and Sunday 5/16 and 5/23 at Elsie Allen High, with more events being scheduled.
-
Visit http://scoe.org/vaccines for flyers in Spanish and English, and links to sign up for an appointment.
- These clinics will continue through the month of May, hopefully, longer.
- Appointments are preferred for these clinics, but walk-ins will also be taken.
- Young people do not need to have their parent/guardian present if they have a signed consent form ahead of time; consent can also be provided verbally if the parent is present.
- Pfizer is expected to be approved for California youth aged 12-15 years in the coming days. Once this happens, we plan to expand the existing clinics to include 12-15 year-olds. Approval for children aged 2-11 is expected later this fall.
- Pfizer is available at the Roseland library walk-in clinic, 779 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95407. The clinic is operated by Santa Rosa Community Health and hours are Tues-Fri 9am - 6pm and Sat 10am - 3pm. No appointment is needed.
-
Visit https://socoemergency.org/emergency/novel-coronavirus/vaccine-information/clinics/ for a full list of vaccination clinics throughout the County.
-
Many clinics have appointments available via https://myturn.ca.gov/.
- Youth can also be vaccinated at their primary care offices/medical groups.

Step into 4-H: Short Term Projects!

We hope our 4-H community enjoys these programs. These projects help us grow the 4-H community by bringing in new families to participate in these short-term activities in the ummer and hopefully leading them to join community clubs in the fall.
There is still time if you would like to lead your own 4-H short-term project this summer! Contact the 4-H Office if you have questions or are interested in offering a program in your community.
To register for the programs, complete the survey linked below:

We did it! We made it to the end (almost!) of the 4-H year, continued to find new and innovative ways to provide the 4-H Program to so many youth members in our community, despite the challenges presented to us by the coronavirus. Thank you! And...can I just say: CHICKEN QUE! It was awesome. I can't say enough good things about the committee, the volunteers, and the membership that showed up to make it happen. And to our community at large? THANK YOU for coming out and supporting our program with your purchases AGAIN! Can't wait to get my tumbler!!
Thank you to the youth, the volunteers, the thinkers and the doers. This program is nothing without our volunteers and youth members, and I am so proud to be part of it.
I don't know if you met them driving through for your Chicken Que lunches, but we have an incoming team of awesome All Stars for the 2021-2022 program year! Congratulations to Emily Maners, Angel Lopez and Alister Clark, your 2021-2022 All Star Team. They will have the pleasure of overlapping with your 2020-2021 All Stars who you already know well: Kiley Anderson, Carson Hay and Alister Clark (yep! you read that right!). This overlap allows the outgoing team and the incoming team to work together until August and is a great way to pass the torch. Please join me in welcoming, congratulating and thanking our All Stars, who work tirelessly to provide youth leadership to our members and be the "face of 4-H" to our community! I can't wait to see what they have in store for us this year! I also want to take a moment and thank Gianna Pendleton who has been an All Star advisor for the last several years. Gianna has decided to bow out in August with the outgoing team. Thank you, Gianna, for all your guidance, team-building and leadership to our All Stars over the years! You will be missed.
In addition to incoming All Stars, you have elected your 2021-2022 CCC Executive Board. The 2021-2022 Board members will be: President Sara Glashan, VP of Membership Lisa Schuldt, VP of Programs Stefanie Stornetta, Secretary Kimberly Roberts, Corresponding Secretary Tiffany Kelly, Special Accounts Treasurer Dana Grande, and General Treasurer Diana Stornetta. Thank you so much to each volunteer for serving our 4-H Community Clubs, please know you are appreciated!
Don't forget to get your entries in for the Sonoma Marin Fair, your livestock entries for the Sonoma County Fair, and to help the kids get their YQCA certifications...so many people have worked so hard to provide opportunities for our members to present their hard work and do what they love, I am grateful.
Keep an eye on your email, we will be sending out schedules for Leader Training, (which, remember, is when all club documents, record books, etc. are due for turn in...) so we can wrap things up and look forward to starting fresh again. With luck, we will be looking at each other's faces in person soon! In the meantime, help encourage your members to get their record books done, get all those signatures, and use the state website for helpful information. The increase in state 4-H enrollment fees for the 2021-2022 Program Year will be offset by the CCC so fees will remain the same from our members and adult volunteers for a third year in a row. Also one last note, if you see things that look outdated on our county website, please understand that no updates are currently being made to that website due to an expected change in the web platform from the state; always feel free to contact your CCC board with questions, if we can't answer them, we can help you get the answers!!
Have a great summer, everyone, and thank you again for ALL you do!
Sara

2021 Drive-Thru 4-H Chicken Que: Clovers to Diamonds!
by Nell Western
|
|
The Chicken Que Drive Thru was a great success! Thanks to the Fair and their staff for working with us to make the event happen. Special thank you to both Debbie Townsend & Robert Garcia. Although we would have loved to host a traditional Chicken Que, we appreciated seeing everyone car side and being able to greet guests in person. Over 1700 meals were sold as well as over 200 pies along with shirts, hats, and tumblers. Many local partners and donors stepped up. Thank you to Cotati Foods, Petaluma Poultry, Costeaux Bakery, Franco American Bakery, Recology, Clover Sonoma, Community First Credit Union, Exchange Bank, Lunardi Electric, and 93.7 The Bull. The committee continues to be grateful for our 4-H families and our larger community for generously supporting this event, whatever form it takes. We'll see you on the first Sunday in May, 2022!
