Hello Knightdale! Students are back in school, and fall is right around the corner! I'm so excited about the many positive things going on around town, and I wanted to share just a few going on with our citizens and community.

Back To School!

I was fortunate to join the students of Knightdale Elementary as they embarked on their first day of the 2022-2023 school year! And, I had the privilege of being joined by two of Knightdale’s amazing council members–Councilman Steve Evans and Mayor Pro Tem Stephen Morgan–and Representative James Roberson.

It was so great to see their smiling faces. They had so much energy; it got me excited for all the things they would learn and discover this year.

Special thanks to members of Knightdale’s finest, the Knightdale Police Department, for helping me celebrate the first day for our Knightdale Elementary youth. I so appreciate your being there–and the kids did, too!

The First Mayor's Academy Participants Graduate!

I recently celebrated the first graduating class of the Knightdale Mayor’s Academy! For those who don’t know, I created the Mayor’s Academy to give citizens a chance to dig into how Knightdale operates, from the inside out. Citizens who applied and were accepted experienced life as a fireman, police officer, town administrator, and so much more!

The program was years in the making, but global circumstances unfortunately forced us to stall its implementation. Seeing brighter days in 2022, we forged ahead with 15 engaged, curious, and community-aware citizens who now know so much more about municipal operations!

At our banquet, our keynote speaker was Judge Ashleigh Parker Dunston, the District Court Judge in the 10th Judicial District. Judge Dunston has presided in almost all types of criminal and domestic courtrooms, and she currently serves as the Lead Child Support Judge in Wake County.

Judge Dunston attended our Mayor’s Academy session that was led by Chief Capps of the Knightdale Police Department, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed her. We were happy to hear her speak on leadership in the community. Thank you for your time, Judge!

The program was supported by all of the Town Council members, as well as all of the department directors and town administrators. Several members came throughout the session classes to speak about their roles and responsibilities in the Town. Special thanks to everyone who made this program such a success!

If you would like to participate in a future Mayor’s Academy, be on the lookout for more information on our social media accounts. We will announce when applications will be accepted for an upcoming Academy!

Until then, check out this highlights video of the 2022 Mayor's Academy!
