MONTHLY UPDATE | August 2021

August is here! It is going to be a wild month as we send summer out with a bang, and ramp right into fall. This month you can sign up for Six Flags, Lake Day, and our End of Summer Social. We'll also officially welcome in our rising 7th graders this month with Spartan Day Breakfast and Promotion Sunday. All the details you need are below! An intern update: with school starting Alexa will sadly be leaving us to return to Baylor, but Nathan is staying aboard, and FALLON CARDER IS BACK! Fallon is beginning her studies at Samford's Beeson Divinity School this fall and we are thrilled she will be rejoining our Student Ministry Staff!

Sunday Morning Bible Study Sundays, 10 a.m. | Heritage Hall

Summer Series: Wisdom Wayne Splawn will be the special guest teacher for those not at Beach Retreat on August 1, and August 8 we'll wrap up our summer series on Wisdom. August 1 - Special Guest Teacher Wayne Splawn August 8 - Wisdom for Living New Series: Welcome to the Family! We'll be begin the school year in SMBS with a short series reminding us about why we do church and Student Ministry anyway. We're calling it "Welcome to the Family!" It will be a great introduction for our new 7th graders, and a great refresher for the rest of us as we set out to be a family of faith worshipping God, following Jesus, and known by our love. August 15 - "A Family of Faith ..." August 22 - "... Worshipping God ..." August 29 - "...Following Jesus ..." September 5 - "... Known by Our Love"

Summer Free Play in the CLC Gym Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays | 12-2 p.m. The CLC gym is open for you and your friends to come play each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoon during the summer. No sign-up required. -- After School in the CLC Weekdays | 3-5:30 p.m. The CLC gym and game room are reserved for students on weekday afternoons during the school year. Come over after school and enjoy A/C, WiFi, TV, snack machines and being together.

Prayers for Beach Retreat July 30-August 2 | Laguna Beach As this email goes out, part of our Student Ministry family is at Laguna Beach for Beach Retreat. Please pray for a safe and meaningful time for them all!

Spartan Day Breakfast Tuesday, August 3 | 8 a.m. & 10 a.m. Each year we invite all the rising 7th grade students from Mountain Brook Junior High to join us in Heritage Hall for a quick, light breakfast and a brief word of encouragement before we walk across the street together for Spartan Day orientation. This year Spartan Day is divided by first letter of last name. A-K will come for the 8 a.m. seating and L-Z will come for the 10 a.m. seating. Help us spread the word to any rising 7th graders you know!

Six Flags Over Georgia Wednesday, August 4 | $35 We are going to Six Flags!  We'll leave the church at 7:15 a.m., and plan to be back home around 8 p.m. Sign ups close August 1!

Lake Day! Saturday, August 7 We’re spending the day at the lake! Martin & Angie Jones have invited us back to their lake house on Lake Martin. We’ll leave the church at 8 am and return around 6 pm. We’ll have lunch and dinner at the lake.  Bring your swim attire, a towel, a change of clothes, and a lifejacket, if you have one.  Everyone needs a Lake Day Waiver. NOTE: This is different than our typical waiver!

Fall Clean Up Day Sunday, August 8 We are excited to be able to resume many of the ministries we had to pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. We need your help to get the church building and grounds spruced up as we welcome many folks back to our campus. On Sunday, August 8, we will eat a quick lunch after the 11 a.m. worship service and then spend the afternoon completing various projects inside and outside of the church. If you are able to help, please sign up at the link below.

Promotion Sunday Sunday, August 15 We'll recognize our rising 7th graders in worship on Sunday, August 15 and their parents will present them with their new Bibles. 7th Grade families be on the look out for more info soon!

Church-Wide End of Summer Social Sunday, August 15, 4 p.m. | Lower Parking Lot We'll celebrate the end of summer with the whole church family. Join us for water slides and dinner. Bring a tailgate chair. Please sign up! Cost is $5 per person; $20 family max.
