Nebraska Extension Dishes About "The Dish", "Soccer for Success"

Nebraska Extension has developed an innovative virtual program,  The Dish: Real Talk about Food. The Dish is a nutrition education series that includes quick, practical nutrition tips in 30 minutes or less helping viewers to plan meals, save money, shop and eat healthier, as well as be more physically active.

Partnering with community organizations and schools, NE Extension also developed Soccer for Success, using soccer to teach kids about nutrition and encourage physical activity. The program is taught by highly-trained coaches, who provide a positive role model.

Kids and Pandemic Mental Health

The pandemic has put the mental health of children in crisis say experts. One way to protect their mental health? Over 100 studies say physical activity is a major lifeline.

With rising prices, how can parents find low and no cost ways of keeping their kids active? Doesn't have to be organized sports - running through the sprinklers, walking the dog, playing hoops in the driveway and gardening counts.

NE Safety Council/Workwell Advises
"This Summer, Stay Hydrated."

Sweating due to hot, humid conditions or extreme physical activity can lead to dehydration. Drinking enough water is important for many reasons as even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.

Water helps regulate body temperature, keeps joints lubricated, prevents infections, delivers nutrients to cells, and keeps organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.

Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving and protecting the health, wellness, and fitness of Lincoln's children, families, and seniors.

We work to improve wellness policies and conduct community level health research. We collaborate with community partners to promote healthy weights through good nutrition and fitness, improve child and maternal health by supporting breastfeeding, create better patient outcomes by increasing cancer screening and vaccination rates, improving chronic disease management, increasing preventative outreach, and standardizing clinical practices. During public health crises like the COVID 19 pandemic, we help to protect community health by providing science and evidence-based information.
Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln also works to improve health equity in our community, addressing disparities among racial and ethnic populations with the highest burden of chronic disease.  Systemic racism is also a threat to community health. We stand in solidarity with everyone who is fighting for greater equality and justice for all.
