Item Newsletter, Issue #19, May 16, 2021
Dear HW Families,

The HW Community never ceases to amaze us...our deepest gratitude and thanks for your unrelenting support and generosity for our school! Because of your creative donations and magnitude of ticket sales, our reimagined Mayfest was a HIT! The proceeds will solely support projects and programs that benefit our children, teachers and school. We are extremely thankful to the committee that said "YES" to finding a way to keep Mayfest alive this year! Also, we are so grateful to the teachers and staff that celebrated our beloved tradition along with us. Watch out Mayfest 2022...we are coming for you...ALL TOGETHER!

To see a list of the Mayfest Raffle winners, click HERE. Raffle Winners will be contacted by the Mayfest Raffle Committee to arrange prize drop-off by May 28.

This week marks another exciting HW tradition...FIELD DAY! We can't wait to see all the students and teachers in their awesome Field Day t-shirts! A treasured spring ritual that our teachers have cleverly reinvented for everyone to enjoy and have fun. Let the games begin!

In addition, this week the PTO Sign-Up Genius will be released on Tuesday at 9am. This is the master sign-up for all volunteer opportunities for next school year; from Back to School to 4th Grade Farewell-they are all on there! Make sure to finalize plans with your friends, get your crew together or convince your spouse or partner that NOW IS THE TIME to run one of our many cherished traditions! Without YOU, we can't do it-kindly consider throwing your hat in the ring, you won't regret it!

Raccoons, we are rounding third on this school year, so to speak, let's make sure to stay positive, be kind and ROCK THAT HW PRIDE!

Rah, Rah, Rah for Hubbard Woods!

News and Notes
We Need YOU!

On Tuesday, May 18 at 9am, the PTO Committee Sign-Up will be sent out. Make sure to check your email! There are so many great ways to get involved; whether it is a one-day volunteer project or planning an event.

Why sign up? It's a great way to make friends, get to know and support HW staff -- and directly enhance your child's school experience! Also, without parents, we simply can't run events and programs that the kids and staff have cherished for decades. Without parents, we would not have long-held traditions like The Book Fair, Mayfest, Field Day and Fourth Grade Farewell or new exciting events either!  PTO volunteers make the "perks" happen like world travelers, school assemblies, school photos, spirit-wear, pre-packaged school supplies, yearbook and hot lunch! Don't worry if you haven't helped with an event before, every event benefits from new ideas and new people helping. The HW PTO has a long history of making Hubbard Woods a very special place.

These years go quickly -- jump on board and experience the fun of the HW PTO community!

The sign-up will remain open this summer, but slots are filled on a first-come-first-served basis, so don't delay...
PTO Thank You Drive Thru!

In a typical year, we invite everyone who volunteered for the PTO to a simple brunch to say THANK YOU for all their work during that school year.

Last year, the brunch did not happen as we were in the heat of the pandemic, but this year we are going to try something new to make sure people know just how much we appreciate their help and enthusiasm!

Thank you from the HW Yearbook!

Our heartfelt thanks to the many parents and teachers who contributed to the yearbook by collecting photos from classrooms and/or submitting photos from home. With your help, we were able to complete the yearbook so that the children will enjoy an end-of-year book signing in June.

Thank you for helping us keep this tradition alive! Rah, Rah, Rah for Hubbard Woods!

Celebrate Mr. Dillon's Retirement

Please join HW PTO in celebrating Mr. Jay Dillon's recent retirement from District 36. Mr. Dillon dedicated TWENTY EIGHT years to our school community! Below are two opportunities for you to help us show him our collective love and appreciation. Please direct to friends, neighbors, colleagues, etc. who might like to participate to the HW PTO website, or share the link below. We'd love to get some messages from HWS Alumni! Deadline for submissions is Friday, May 28. Thank you!

Share a message in a video montage tribute through this link: https://www.tribute.co/jay-dillon/.

It will only take you, your child or family a minute to film and submit your video. It is very SIMPLE!

Feel free to also drop off any personal notes, pictures, etc. in the labeled bin at 860 Burr Ave (corner of Burr and Chatfield) and they will be given to Mr. Dillon. We suggest not delivering in the rain as it is not a covered porch. Please deliver by May 28.
