AUGUST 2021
August provides many reasons to celebrate, starting with the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. I couldn't resist reminiscing about the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta as the games kicked off in Tokyo this summer.

August is also the time for children to go back to school (which means parents and grandparents get a little breather), anticipation for the kickoff of a new football season, and squeezing in last minute summer vacations.

Who knew there were so may other ways to celebrate in August! Just on the first day of August alone we could celebrate Friendship Day, International Forgiveness Day, National Girlfriends Day, National Mahjong Day, National Mountain Climbing Day, National Raspberry Cream Pie Day, and Sisters Day!

Check out this website to find other ways to celebrate every day this month-a couple of my favorites are Wiggle Your Toes Day (Aug. 6th) and Blame Someone Else Day (Aug. 13th).

Congratulations to Anne McComiskey
Anne's New Book Just Published - Babies with CVI: Nurturing Visual Abilities and Development in Early Childhood
A big shout out to our very own Anne McComiskey, who's new book, Babies with CVI: Nurturing Visual Abilities and Development in Early Childhood, has just been published! CVI is a neurological visual disorder caused by damage to the areas of the brain that process vision. According to the National Eye Institute, the condition is a leading cause of visual impairment among children in the United States. In her new book, Anne shares the unique knowledge she developed throughout her pioneering five decade career working with children and their families.

Anne's book is full of activities designed to help children with CVI develop their visual skills and to increase their learning opportunities. She also takes the reader through the history of CVI and provides other valuable resources for parents and professionals.

Congratulations Anne!

SIGs and TPGs
We have some great Special Interest Groups (SIGs) activities as part of the Atlanta TTN experience. If you are interested in a SIG, look for information in our newsletter and emails with information about the date and location. Sign up to attend as many as you like.  Share with a friend and let them experience the power of TTN! Guests can attend outings for a limited number of times.

Transition Peer Groups (TPGs) are for women to share and learn from each other. While the groups are meant to create a supportive environment, be aware that any member of TTN can go to any Peer Group meeting with the exception of Cobb. We have them set up by location to make it easier for you to attend one closer to your home.  Only members should attend our Peer Group meetings.
Volunteer Activity
Saturdays, August 14th, 2021 and August 28, 2021 from 10:00am‑11:30am
Location: Children Read Atlanta, North Druid Hills Rd, Atlanta
Contact: Eve Bogan

We are excited to announce our first in-person volunteer activity since the pandemic began. Children Read Atlanta aims to improve the reading skills of underprivileged young children by providing them with books and reading to them in schools and childcare settings when permissible to do so again (TBD).

On August 14th and August 28th, we will go to the North Druid Hills office to clean books that have been donated for the children. Books are cleaned using a paper towel and mild organic cleaner in a spray bottle. We will examine the books for torn pages to be mended or marks that can be covered with fun stickers. The events will take place from 10am - 11:30am, followed by lunch at a local restaurant.

We hope that you will register for this event and consider bringing a book to donate (new or used) with you. If you have any questions about volunteer activities, or would like to get more involved, please contact Eve Bogan.

Book Club SIG
The Book Club SIG is meeting at La Madeleine again in August. The next meeting is on August 13th at 12:30pm. The book selection is Klara and the Sun by Ishiguro.

Peer Groups
Peer Group Meetings
To make it easier for the Peer Groups and new participants we would like you to contact JoAnne D'Aleo if you want to attend one of our groups. She will coordinate your attendance with the Peer Group.
Transition peer groups  (TPG’s) are informal groups composed of 8-12 TTN members who meet on a monthly basis. These groups provide a safe and supportive environment in which women may have thought-provoking and stimulating conversations relating to career or personal transitions. Transition peer groups provide opportunities for connection, new friendships and mutually supportive exploration. Peer groups are one of the key benefits of being a TTN member.

Currently the Atlanta Chapter has Peer Groups in Decatur, Sandy Springs and Perimeter areas, Cobb, Gwinnett and North Atlanta. If you are interested in becoming a part of a peer group, or are interested in starting one close to your area, please contact JoAnne D’Aleo at the link above
New Members
Do you have a friend having a difficult time dealing with our present state in the midst of a pandemic? Are you able to fill your days with things you want to do? Can you relate to women in your age group or would like to establish more relationships? If so TTN may be the answer to all of the questions. We invite you to become more involved in the various activities we offer and ask a friend to join us. We are not meeting face to face that often but we still find ways and time to come together.
Questions? Comments? Concerns?,
Lynn Anderson is our co-chair and will take questions, concerns or if you need assistance.
