LETTER FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT
|
|
Dear Members:
I appreciate the opportunity to "speak" to all of you through this newsletter! As Vice President and chair of the Education and Registration committee, it has already been a very busy year.
First of all, we know how important elevating the art and science of sports physical therapy around the world is for the field. IFSPT recognizes that those who have achieved this level of proficiency need a forum to communicate with their peers. The IFSPT Education and Registration committee is pleased to announce the launch of the RISPT IFSPT Facebook page! This page will promote Registration, as well as serve as a forum for Member Organizations to ask about pathway processes, benefits and more. This page is also linked to the main IFSPT Facebook page. The new page may be found here>
However, the larger purpose of the new Facebook page is to serve as a gateway to the private Facebook group, RISPT! This group page will be the location for a variety of resources exclusively for RISPTs. Education, networking, discussions, practice questions and more will lead to the formation of a global community of RISPTs. Members must be invited or approved. RISPTs can request membership after "liking" the public RISPT IFSPT page. Please can I ask any RISPTs who join the group to please comment where we have asked for your opinion about what you want the group to do, it is your community of practice.
In addition, new graphic identifiers/logos have been created to allow RISPTs to promote their proficiency on their social media, website or at their clinic. These graphics are available from the private RISPT group page.
For any MO’s that do not have an approved pathway, and you wish to develop one in the future, please reach out to me for assistance. The IFSPT is ready to guide you in the pursuit of your certification!
In order to further engage our member organizations, the IFSPT is planning a virtual networking session on June 10. All delegates from each of our member organizations are invited to participate. Should a delegate be unable to attend, we invite our member organizations to substitute another leader from their organization. You’ll hear from the president and board members, your fellow member organizations, and have a chance to collaborate! This networking session will be fun, informative, and interactive, as participants will be assigned to “rooms” to discuss specific topics. We plan that this will be the first of many events of this kind. Information about the networking session may be found below.
Please be sure to check out the information about the upcoming General Meeting and Elections...especially the rapidly approaching deadlines! The article is below.
Sadly, I have decided not to run for a second term due to other responsibilities and the need to complete my Doctoral studies. I have enjoyed my work on the IFSPT board, particularly supporting MO’s developing new RISPT pathways, and I plan to stay involved with the IFSPT in a backstage role. I wish the future EB all the best in continuing to promote sports physiotherapy internationally.
Sincerely,
Colin Paterson
Vice President, IFSPT

Executive Board Nomination Instructions
As per the Articles, IFSPT invites nominations for election to the Executive Board at the next General Meeting, to be held on August 19, 2021 via ZOOM.
IFSPT Executive Board (EB) Members may serve a total of two 4-year terms on the EB.
Kristian Thorborg, president, and Colin Paterson, vice-president, will be stepping down from the board. Luciana de Michaelis Mendonça and Carlo Ramponi are up for re-election or replacement by the nominees. Four spaces will be filled; position titles are determined by the next board.
According to the Articles of IFSPT, there will be an election of at least one EB member every two years. For the 2021 General Meeting, there will be an election of a maximum of four new EB Members.
We encourage all IFSPT Member Organisations to nominate a member of their Organisation for the 2021 IFSPT EB Elections to serve for the next 4 year term (2021-2025). It is possible for the EB Member to serve as the IFSPT delegate for the representative country or to be in addition to the Member Organisation’s IFSPT delegate.

- A brief 1-2 page resume which includes experience, education, publications and committee work.
- Evidence of the individual's current financial membership to their Sports Member Organisation.
- A brief statement from the MO indicating they support their member's nomination to the IFSPT EB, and they will contribute financial support towards their nominee to attend the annual EB Meetings.
- Confirmation of the MO's current membership to their National Physical Therapy Organisation
In addition, information should be provided to be posted on the IFSPT website with the individual’s motivation letter and resume:
- A color photograph of 500x500 pixels at 72 dpi.
- A brief (one paragraph) summary of the individual's background and participation in their MO.
- A 2-minute video introducing themselves and what they would like to achieve or contribute to the EB and to IFSPT as an Organisation. A Dropbox link to upload the video will be provided if necessary.
Please forward the required information to Mary Wilkinson by May 14, 2021.
Please ensure that all material submitted may be shared with all Member Organisations on the IFSPT website. No personal or private information should be included.
A slate of candidates will be presented to the membership via newsletter and on the IFSPT website for consideration. The slate will be emailed to the membership delegates for each country within a voting module no later than August 6, 2021. Votes must be received by midnight EST on Friday, August 13, 2021 to be included in the tally.
Results will be announced at the General Meeting. New EB members will start their service that day.

APPLY TO HOST THE FIFTH WORLD CONGRESS OF SPORTS PHYSICAL THERAPY
|
|
The World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy is presented biennially by the International Federation of Sports Physical Therapy (IFSPT) in conjunction with its member organizations. It is designed for sports physical therapists and other disciplines who train and rehabilitate active individuals of all ages, genders, abilities and level of participation. The Congress was developed to provide high quality education using current research, the most expert presenters and the newest methods to restore all active persons to play.
Past congresses have welcomed 500-800 sports physical therapists from all seven continents.
The Fourth World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy will be held August 26-27, 2022 in Copenhagen (Nyborg) Denmark.
IFSPT member organizations in good standing may bid to host this congress. A link to the application for hosting may be found here.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS JUNE 14, 2021.
Application Terms:
Hosting the World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy
The purpose of this document is for IFSPT Member Organizations in good standing to express their interest in and ability to host the World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy.
This event, due to its size and complexity, requires the support of our member countries.
The World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy
This unique and groundbreaking event draws individuals from all IFSPT member organizations to the congress. It is held every two years. Applications are being accepted for 2024 and 2026.
The IFSPT executive board has established that the World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy is to be held in conjunction with the host country’s major sports physical therapy conference. Past experience has shown that this coordinated effort boosts attendance at the host country’s conference while maximizing resources.
The World Congress is important to IFSPT as it provides opportunities for high level education and CPD points, networking, exchange of ideas, spreading awareness about the work of the IFSPT, and generating funds for the IFSPT. It is important to the host country, as the host conference receives extensive marketing support, extended international exposure and approval, and likely will result in higher attendance than in previous conferences.
In order to host the World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy, the member organization must agree to several criteria:
- The congress must be primarily delivered in the English language.
- The host organization will include a designated member of the IFSPT board to serve on the scientific committee.
- The host organization will include the IFSPT director of marketing as part of the activities of the organizing committee, including approval of (or creation of) graphics and marketing materials for the congress, as the World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy title is owned by IFSPT.
-
The host organization agrees to share in profits from the Congress with the IFSPT in exchange for marketing, promotion and title usage. This can be negotiated as a flat amount per attendee or a percentage of profits. This must be part of the proposal by the host organization. Proposals without a financial element will not be considered.
- The host organization will locate and secure an appropriate hotel block at an attractive rate close to the congress facility with sufficient space for the executive board and a large group of attendees.
- If requested, the host country will provide a meeting room for an IFSPT executive board meeting.
- The host organization will also assist the IFSPT in sourcing any food, beverage or other needs on site.
- The host organization agrees to offer courtesy registration to the IFSPT executive board.
Consideration of selection of the host organization will be based on the following criteria
- Quality of the scientific portion of the congress
- Experience of the organization in prior congresses and their success
- Potential number of attendees (borne out by past congresses)
- Financial proposal
- Meet all requirements set out for the World Congress and the board meeting applications
- Attractiveness of location to GM attendees
- Ease of travel to the congress location
- Any additional offerings to the IFSPT. While not necessary, they will be considered. As a word of caution, these should only be offered if they can comfortably be supplied by the host organization.
Additional Assistance
The IFSPT is open to any additional assistance the organization would like to provide. This may include organizing or hosting a dinner for delegates, the executive board, providing refreshments, or other activities. Feel free to provide any details.
Submission
Member organizations in good standing may submit an application for the World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy at any time. However, in order to be considered for the next Congress, all submissions must be in hand 30 days prior to the upcoming General Meeting. In order to submit to host the 2024, or Fifth, World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy, or the 2026, or Sixth, Congress, the application must be received no later than July 19, 2021, to allow review by the Executive Board before the decision is made prior to the general meeting.
It is advised that submissions be made as early as possible so that any questions or corrections may be offered well in advance.
Please submit to Mary Wilkinson. You may also contact her with any questions
APPLICATION DEADLINE
Applications for consideration for the 2021 World Congress of Sports Physical Therapy must be received no later than June 14, 2021. The location for the Fifth World Congress, and potentially the Sixth World Congress, will be announced at the General Meeting on August 19, 2021. Please submit to Mary Wilkinson.
