Prom Promise Week

Prom week has finally arrived! To promote sound decision-making and the safest event and weekend possible, we once again will be hosting Prom Promise Week. CAPA will be hosting several events throughout the week to help educate students about the dangers of substance abuse and distracted driving. Our major event will take place on Tuesday, with the Save a Life Tour being on campus. The Save A Life Tour is a comprehensive high, impact safe driving awareness program that informs, educates, and demonstrates the potentially deadly consequences resulting from poor choices and decisions made by the operator of a motor vehicle. On Tuesday, May 10th, Save a Life will be setup their distracted driving simulator to help model safe driving practices. We request that your child view the video below before trying the module.

Please consider encouraging and supporting safe and substance-free decision-making with your children this week. Research indicates that the more adults engage students (especially parents with their children) about avoiding the pitfalls of substance abuse, the less likely they will engage in the behavior. , We look forward to a fun and exciting week on campus and are thankful for your support to ensure all members of The Swarm staff are safe!

Envirothon and Branch Award

We are pleased to share a team of BBHHS AP Environmental students who competed in the first round of the Envirothon area competition last week and placed 3rd out of over 40 teams competing. Our BBHHS team consists of Miriam Churchin, Gabrielle Logelin, Ashley Patel, James Patrick & Logan Feeney. The team has now qualified for the state competition held on June 5th - 7th at Lake Erie College. The competition requires teams to work together to problem-solve and answer questions in five environmental categories - Current Events, Forestry, Aquatics, Soils, and Wildlife. The team is tasked with an exam and creating a team presentation and solution for an environmental issue. The process is adjudicated and scored by field experts.

Our AP Environmental teacher, Mr. Dan Reynolds, also applied for the Environmental Protection Agency Branch Award. We are pleased to share that BBHHS was designated as a recipient of this award based on AP Environmental and SAFE Club students' work both in and out of the classroom in environmental protection and conservation.

BBHHS Travel Abroad Opportunity

We are excited to announce that Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School is offering students (who will be enrolled in grades 9-12 during the 2023-2024 school year) an incredible international educational travel opportunity through EF Tours.

Please click here to register to learn more about the tour being offered to Costa Rica in June 2023. This virtual meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 17th at 7:00 PM, and by RSVP’ing, you’ll save your seat and receive the Zoom link for the meeting. There are limited spots available on this trip, so please RSVP & attend if you and/or your child(ren) are interested in learning more.

At this meeting on May 17th, you’ll hear all the details, including the itinerary, academic opportunities, costs of these trips, and enrollment options – including taking advantage of EF’s risk-free enrollment period.

We know that when students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. By taking part in this experience, students will be given a chance to step outside their comfort zone, experience a new culture, and see the world from a different perspective. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we want our BBHHS students to be able to take advantage of this opportunity.

The deadline to RSVP is Monday, May 16th, and those who RSVP will receive the link to enroll. Can’t make the meeting but want more information? RSVP HERE: https://bit.ly/3kfeEDi and select “No but send info.”

AFTER PROM NEEDS HELP!!
We need parents with students in any grade to help out!  After Prom is a fun and safe place for our students to continue their Prom festivities with their classmates.  We can only make it a true success with adults who volunteer to enjoy the evening with them and help the evening run smoothly!

Rising Senior Meningitis Vaccination Requirement Notice
Please note that students entering the 12th grade are required by law to receive their second Meningitis vaccination before the first day of school during their senior year. Annual notification is made to ensure families have plenty of time to ensure their child has received the required vaccination before the start of the 2022-2023 school year. If your child has already received the second dose, you may begin submitting your child's updated immunization record to our Health Care Coordinator, Lisa Witzke. If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Lisa Witzke at 440-740-4706 or through email at witzkel@bbhcsd.org.
High School Transportation OPT-IN form Open Through May 30th
Transportation continues to be an important topic as we approach the 2022-2023 school year, and as we have noted in previous correspondences, your help is important. Accordingly, the District is respectfully asking all high school students who will require transportation to OPT-IN for their transportation needs, by filling out a short, but very important survey. You can find that survey here, and also by visiting the Transportation page of our web site. This transportation OPT-IN will be open and available through May 30th. Once again, all high school students requiring transportation next year will be required to OPT-IN with their needs. Thank you for your support and assistance.
