Maybe you're thinking, Man, another email about United Way? How much longer are we doing this?
Maybe you already gave, found a volunteer opportunity, or connected to a service through one of our Community Partners. (We hope so 😉)

If you're in that first category, no sweat. We're thinkers, too. It's a hard decision to make.

You might be just learning about Lubbock Area United Way, and you're not really sure if you want to give. Maybe you already give to your church or another nonprofit. Maybe you're thinking you don't have room in your budget for anything else or you don't have time in your schedule to volunteer.

We don't want you to feel pressured to give. We want you to give because you want to.

If you're in that second category, thank you! We cannot say how much we appreciate your support!
Whichever category you fit into, we bet you have questions. We would. Here are the answers to a few common questions:

1. Aren't you connected to a bigger national organization? How much really stays here?

98.5% of what is raised in the Lubbock area stays here. That other 1.5% goes toward our membership fees for United Ways of Texas and United Way Worldwide. Both provide critical support to our local United Way in the form of training, research, and additional fundraising.

2. Ok, so where does my contribution go?

All funds in the Campaign go into the Community Fund unless a donor designates a specific agency or other United Way. On an annual basis, United Way Volunteers evaluate overall community needs and United Way funded programs. Money is then allocated based on these evaluations and the recommendations of the volunteer committees. The Community Fund is the best way to help the most people and meet the greatest needs in our community.

3. Alright, but who decides how my gift is used?

Every year, trained volunteers evaluate community needs and the services provided by our Community Partners. This review assures that all gifts to the Community Fund are used in a manner that best meets the needs of our area. These volunteers make funding recommendations to the United Way Board of Directors for final approval. (If you choose to designate your gift, it will go directly to that agency or other United Way.)
