JULY 2021 | Trouble viewing? View online
Hey Bobcats!
Effective immediately, COCC is lifting its mandatory mask and social distancing policies at all campuses, both indoors and outdoors, for students, staff and visitors. This follows Oregon's executive order, signed June 25, to eliminate all remaining COVID-19 health and safety restrictions, based on a 70% vaccination rate for adult Oregonians or June 30, whichever came first. The College strongly encourages unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals to continue following mask and distancing guidelines, encourages handwashing practices for all, and will adhere to all federal, state, and local health authority guidelines. Read COCC's full statement on this policy lift and the College's vaccination requirements starting Fall term.
Dates & Deadlines
Summer Term Dates
July 2, noon: Tuition payment deadline and end of refund for full-term classes.

July 5: Campuses closed, Happy Independence Day.

Aug. 6, noon: Last day to drop full-term classes with no grade on transcript. Last day to change to/from audit or add classes. Courses not spanning full term will have different deadlines.

Fall Term Registration
Registration for Fall term is now open. If you are not yet registered, we encourage you to do so right away! Check to see if you have an advising or other requirement in your Bobcat Web Account (go to Student Services, Registration, and “Can I Register?”). For new students, if you have an advising or other requirement, contact Admissions and Records at 541-383-7200. For continuing students, if you have an advising requirement, you should email your advisor with information about your degree goal and class selection. Faculty advisors are not on contract during the summer and many are inaccessible. In that case, contact CAP Services at 541-383-7200.

Reminder: For Summer term, all College offices, including Campus Public Safety, will close at noon on Fridays. Bend Patrol Services will provide after-hour coverage and weekend patrols throughout the summer.
Financial Aid
It typically takes less than 60 minutes to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. The application is used for all federal financial aid opportunities, including the Federal Pell Grant and Federal Work-Study Program. And the State of Oregon uses the FAFSA to determine eligibility for state aid. According to this article on CNBC.com, in 2019 some 43% of families reported not completing the FAFSA because they believed they couldn’t qualify for aid -- while the reality, the article shares, is that almost every applicant receives something. Contact Financial Aid for more information at 541-383-7260 or coccfinaid@cocc.edu.

The Broadside Wins Best Website
On the heels of winning several Oregon Newspaper Publisher Association's annual Collegiate awards, The Broadside recently took top honors in the best website category for two-year schools at the Pacific Northwest Association of Journalism Educators' (PNAJE) annual student contest, along with two second-place awards (Roman Russell and Marvin Walder), two third-place awards (Walder) and three honorable mentions (Walder, Miina McCown and Ayla Adkins). The contest is open to two- and four-year schools from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. “The students’ achievement with adviser Teresa Ristow is especially noteworthy given they had to rebuild their program from the ground up just a few years ago,” said Beth Slovic, president of the PNAJE.
