Pensacola State graduation set for May 8 at Bay Center

Nursing pinning ceremony to be held today 

Pensacola State College will hold Spring 2022 nursing pinning and graduation today, May 5, and Sunday, May 8, respectively.


Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and Associate of Science degree in Nursing graduates will be pinned during a 3 p.m. ceremony at First Pentecostal Church, 6485 Pensacola Blvd., Pensacola.


Ed Meadows, PSC president, will deliver comments and recognize the 13 bachelor’s and 95 associate degree graduates from the nursing program.

16 PSC student-athletes will continue studies, athletic careers at colleges and universities from South Florida to Massachusetts

Sixteen Pensacola State College student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent on Friday, April 29, committing to play and study at colleges and universities that range from NAIA schools to Division 1 programs.

PSC wins 2 Gold, 8 Silver Awards at District 4 ADDY competition

Nursing is a noble and honorable profession ─ but it’s not for everyone. Even nurses will tell you that.

 

Danny Nguyen started at Pensacola State College as a nursing student, but it just wasn’t a good fit. Instead, he enrolled in the College’s Visual Arts Program and has blossomed as a graphic design artist.

 

In fact, Nguyen won a Gold Award and two Silver Awards at the American Advertising Federation District 4 Awards competition held April 22 in Orlando. District 4 includes colleges and universities in Florida and the Caribbean.

A small cadre of Pirates with what looked like fencing sabers in hand were following commands and lead of a fiery, auburn-haired commander.

 

En garde! Then an advance!

 

The cadre mirrored every move of their leader, moving forward when she did, retreating only when she did, moving their blades in the same graceful, confident way she did.

PSC Adult Ed graduates hope GED diploma leads to better opportunities

Ishan Kendall has neither a car nor a home.


But he does have a diploma.

Kendall, 35, is a current resident of the Waterfront Rescue Mission where he is in the Life Builder Recovery Program. He never received a high school diploma after his life was derailed by drugs and crime.


Yet on Tuesday, May 3, Kendall earned his GED diploma at a recognition ceremony in the Pensacola State College Ashmore Auditorium. He was one of 39 students who earned a GED diploma this semester through the PSC Adult Education Program.

Pensacola State piano student Jermel Kidd hopes to impress UWF faculty at audition

Jermel Kidd has been practicing his classical piano chops for hours each day preparing for an audition that will propel him forward.


On Friday, May 5, Kidd, a Pensacola State College piano student, will audition for faculty from the University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music. Kidd, 38, is hoping to earn acceptance and a scholarship.


“I’ve been practicing for about eight hours a day,’’ said Kidd, a former police officer who is music director for Transformation Church on Mobile Highway.

Cantonment Rotary Club changes lives with $40,000 in scholarships to PSC students

2022 Cantonment Rotary Scholarship recipients.

More than 30 Pensacola State College stellar students received a share of $40,000 in Cantonment Rotary Club scholarships on Wednesday, April 27.


The total award was the largest the Cantonment Rotary Club has given to PSC students, said Ray Asherfeld, Cantonment Rotary Club Foundation chairman. Since 1991, the Rotary Club has provided $62,253.25 in scholarships to 150 to 200 PSC students.
